On 9/25 at the Imperial Grasslands pond, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 1 Spotted Sandpiper; on 9/28 in Imperial,
there were 4 NORTHERN HARRIERS at the toy airport, a LESSER YELLOWLEGS at
the main pond; on 9/30, 1 VESPER SPARROW, 1 SAVANNAH SPARROW, 6 PALM
WARBLERS, 3 Eastern Phoebes, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 2 Tree Swallows, 100
Brown-headed Cowbirds, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS; 39 Turkey Vultures at the
landfill; at the pond on 9/30, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 1
Spotted Sandpiper (MV).
On the morning of 9/25 in an unspecified location, flight calls were heard
of ~700 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, ~50 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES, ~20 Wood Thrushes, 1
HERMIT THRUSH, 10-12 warblers, 8 Scarlet Tanagers, 1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak,
and 200+ unidentified migrants; also heard that morning were 1 VEERY in the
yard (GM).
On 9/26 at Harrison Hills Regional Park, sightings included CHESTNUT-SIDED
WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLER, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, Black-and-white Warbler, immature female
American Redstart, 2 female Common Yellowthroats, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET,
Empidoax flycatcher sp., Eastern Phoebe, female Indigo Bunting, Scarlet
Tanager, Gray Catbird (JS and SS); on 10/1, 1 Red-eyed Vireo, 3 WINTER
WRENS, 7 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 3 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES (one singing), 1 Wood
Thrush, 2 Gray Catbirds, 1 MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 6 White-throated Sparrows, 1

Redstart, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, Common
Yellowthroat, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Red-eyed Vireo, SWAINSON'S THRUSH,
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, Scarlet Tanager (BV).
At the Homewood Cemetery on 9/30, 1 WINTER WREN (MF).
Along Strouss Road on 9/30, 3 PURPLE FINCHES, 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler, 1
BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 1 MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 2 Common Yellowthroats, 2
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 2 Gray Catbirds, Indigo Buntings (MV).
At Walker Park on 9/30, YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, 3 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS,
Black-and-White Warbler, BLACKPOLL WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER,
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, MAGNOLIA WARBLER, Yellow-rumped Warbler,
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER (reported to MV by
Becky Smith).
BEAVER COUNTY:
At the Madden Run Road marsh on 9/29, 1 White-crowned Sparrow, 2 SWAMP
SPARROWS, 1 PALM WARBLER (MV).
At the Big Beaver Wetlands on 9/29, 1 GREAT EGRET, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE; on
10/1, 1 GREAT EGRET, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL (MV).
At Little Blue Lake on 9/29, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 2 GADWALLS, 4 BLUE-WINGED
TEAL, 29 Wood Ducks, 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 6 Eastern Phoebes, 1 WINTER WREN,
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 3 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 4 PALM

At Independence Marsh on 9/29, 5 Northern Mockingbirds, 2 SWAMP SPARROWS, 1
PALM WARBLER, 1 Green Heron (MV).
BUTLER COUNTY:
At an unspecified location on 9/26, a Dark-eyed Junco arrived at a feeder;
also 1 Ruby-throated Hummingbird; on 9/30, 1 WINTER WREN (MB).
CLARION COUNTY:
In Sligo on 9/23, 1 SWAINSON'S THRUSH; on 9/24, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER;
on the morning of 9/25, flight calls of many SWAINSON'S THRUSHES and
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES were heard overhead, along with 1 probable VEERY, 1
probable HERMIT THRUSH, and 1 possible BICKNELL'S THRUSH (CW).
CRAWFORD COUNTY:
In the Pymatuning area on 9/30, sightings included BALD EAGLES, NORTHERN
HARRIERS, Turkey Vulture, NORTHERN SHOVELER, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, several
hundred Double-crested Cormorants, Common Merganser, Ring-billed Gull,
Eastern Phoebe, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and others (SG). On 10/1 at the fish
hatchery, 8 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 16 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 2 Solitary
Sandpipers, 6 Least Sandpipers, 2 Hooded Mergansers, 1 Common Merganser, 20
NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 16 Barn Swallows perched on a building with Tree
Swallows (MV). On 10/1 on the trail at Shelatos Pond, Yellow-rumped Warbler,
5 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, 1 BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 4 PALM WARBLERS (MV).
ERIE COUNTY:
On 9/26 in the reed beds at the head of Presque Isle Bay, there were 4 EARED
GREBES seen; on 9/27, a large number of American Coots had taken their
place, and a large number of Ring-billed Gulls were heading south, and large
flocks of Double-crested Cormorants were coming into the Bay; White-crowned
Sparrows and White-throated Sparrows were found in the Beach 11 areas, and
PINE WARBLERS and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS were both seen near the North
Pier; on 9/28, 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was swimming in the area of the warm
water outlet to the Lake from Erie Coke (Coppers Inc.) just west of the boat
launch; it was not present on 9/29 (CK). A waterbird count on the morning of
9/29 included 1 Wood Duck, 1 AMERICAN WIGEON, 11 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 10
LESSER SCAUP, 5 SURF/BLACK SCOTERS, 1 RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, 18
Unidentified ducks, 3 Common Loons, 590 Double-crested Cormorants, 1 CASPIAN
TERN; on 9/30, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 1 Common Loon, 2 Double-crested
Cormorants, 3 SANDERLINGS, 2 immature PEREGRINE FALCONS (JM). Other
highlights at Presque Isle on 9/30 included 2 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 1 GREATER
SCAUP, 1 LESSER SCAUP (all at Gull Point), 1 second-year BALD EAGLE, 1
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER at Gull Point, 18 Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers, 9 WINTER
WRENS, 233 mixed RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS and Golden-crowned Kinglets, 3
SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 4 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES, 7 HERMIT THRUSHES, 1 singing
White-eyed Vireo, 1 singing YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, 1 PHILADELPHIA VIREO, 1
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 10 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS, 1 PINE WARBLER, 1
PRAIRIE WARBLER, 18 White-crowned Sparrows, 1 PURPLE FINCH, 2 Dark-eyed
Juncos (RS).
FAYETTE COUNTY:
In the Friendship Hill/Dunbar Knob area on 9/26, sightings included
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, 3 Red-eyed Vireos, TENNESSEE
WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, 5 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 3 BLACK-THROATED GREEN
WARBLERS, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 3 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, 3 American Redstarts,
Hooded Warbler, 2 Scarlet Tanagers (JB).
INDIANA COUNTY:
In Clarksburg on 9/26, 1 Brown Thrasher; on 9/27, 1 PINE SISKIN, 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Eastern Phoebe, Scarlet Tanager, Gray Catbird,
and others; on 9/30, CAPE MAY WARBLER, Black-and-White Warbler, several
MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow-rumped Warblers,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLERS singing, 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO; on 10/1, Indigo
Buntings, 2 PINE SISKINS (MC).
LAWRENCE COUNTY:
On 10/1 in New Beaver at the Wampum-New Galilee Road marsh, 2 AMERICAN
WIGEON, 2 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 TRUMPETER SWANS, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 3
COMMON MOORHENS (MV).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
On 9/25 at Canonsburg Lake, a flock of 6 Yellow-rumped Warblers was present,
along with 1 PALM WARBLER, 1 Eastern Phoebe, 2 Solitary Sandpipers (MV). On
9/26, a BREWER'S BLACKBIRD was seen with roosting Red-winged Blackbirds;
also a PALM WARBLER and 2+ Yellow-rumped Warblers (RG). On 9/27,
approximately 2,000 blackbirds flew into the marsh, 95 percent being
Red-winged Blackbirds, with a few cowbirds and starlings; also seen were 2
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Sandpiper flycatching, 1
BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 1 Green Heron (MV with Dave Wilton).
At an unspecified location on 9/26, 133 pre-dawn flight calls included
mostly SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, some GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSHES, 7 Wood Thrushes, 2
VEERIES, 1 Rose-breasted Grosbeak, 1 BOBOLINK, 1 Indigo Bunting, 9
unidentified warblers, 2 Eastern-Screech Owls, and one unidentified possible
sandpiper (RG).
Through 9/29 in Coal Center, several Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are still
visiting the feeder and garden; on 9/27, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO was found
dead in a backyard near Pike Run Creek (AT).
On 9/28 in Robinson Township, 2 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were seen at the
pond along Old Stuebenville Pike (MV).
At the Greencove Wetlands on 9/30, sightings included 5 Wood Ducks, 4
Eastern Phoebes, 3 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 75 SWAMP SPARROWS, 8 LINCOLN'S
SPARROWS, 1 CLAY-COLORED SPARROW flocking with Field Sparrows, 1 PALM
WARBLER, 15 Common Yellowthroats; on 10/1, highlights included 6 Wood Ducks,
1 Ring-necked Pheasant, 1 SORA, 1 MARSH WREN, 50 SWAMP SPARROWS, 1-2
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 8 White-throated Sparrows, 30 Indigo Buntings, 2
BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 1 MAGNOLIA WARBLER (RG).
On 9/30 at the former Dutch Fork Lake site, 1 MERLIN, 25 SWAMP SPARROWS, 15
LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 1 White-throated Sparrow, 1 White-eyed Vireo, 3
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 2 TENNESSEE WARBLERS, 1 NASHVILLE WARBLER, 1 American
Redstart, 75 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 3 MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, 7 BLACKPOLL
