Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was recorded on
Monday, September 8, at 11:35 am. To report a bird sighting, leave a message after

There have been at least 3 reports of CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLERS in the City of Calgary
within the past few days. An observer who lives in the Oakridge subdivision of
Calgary reported an immature female in his yard on Wednesday, August 31, and also in
the Oakridge subdivision but on Tuesday, September 6,a different observer reported a
CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, age and sex unknown, in his yard. These birds were probably
2 separate individuals. On Monday,September 5, Dick and Lenora Flynn observed an
adult CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER in Hull's Wood area of east Fish Creek PP.
Warbler and other small passerines were in good numbers in the Calgary area this
week. Other reports included 2 separate male CAPE MAY WARBLERS seen in the woods
behind parking lot "G" in North Glenmore Park. Both birds were seen by Terry Korolyk
with the first being seen on Monday,September 5. Terry also reported a small number
of both WHITE-CROWNED and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS in the area. On
Wednesday,September 7, Terry observed a second CAPE MAY WARBLER at this location
amongst 125 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS,20 ORANGE -CROWNED WARBLERS, 20 TENNESSEE
WARBLERS,15 WILSON'S WARBLERS,1 immature BLACKPOLL WARBLER and a small numbers of
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS.Terry Korolyk reported the first HERRING GULL of the season on
Monday,September 5. He observed 4 adult Birds and 1 to 2 immature birds resting on
the water in the west end of Glenmore Reservoir early in the morning.
Richard Clarke reported 35 WHITE-FACED IBIS were in the SE corner of Frank Lake east
of High River on the afternoon of Monday,September 5. To reach the site, go west on
the first east-west road south of Highway 23 on 232 St. Southeast.
There has been another report of BALD EAGLES along the Bow River in north-east
Calgary. Ted Bodner reported 2 adults and an immature bird were feeding on a trout
on September5, across from Bearpaw Natural Area. Penny Smith had reported a lone
adult around the Crowchild Trail Bridge last week.

The next scheduled update of the bird alert is on Monday, September 12
