Migrants counted yesterday during an all-day seawatch at Andrew's Point in
Rockport included 1 BRANT, 4 GREATER SCAUP, 1030 SURF SCOTERS,
1285 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 40 BLACK SCOTERS, 15 RED-
BREASTED MERGANSERS, 6 RED-THROATED LOONS, 78 COMMON
LOONS, 495 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 1 SOOTY SHEARWATER, 1
MANX SHEARWATER, 435 NORTHERN GANNETS, 24 GREAT
CORMORANTS, 3 PEREGRINE FALCONS, 1 POMARINE JAEGER, 240
LAUGHING GULLS, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, 1 BLACK-
LEGGED KITTIWAKE, 5 CASPIAN TERNS, 1 COMMON TERN, 1
BLACK GUILLEMOT, and 1 ATLANTIC PUFFIN.
Noted on a boat trip from Gloucester to Stellwagen Bank yesterday were
roughly 200 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 1 MANX SHEARWATER, 1
BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE, 30 LAUGHING GULLS, and 1 LITTLE
GULL, and weekend reports from Plum Island included 1 EURASIAN
WIGEON, 114 AMERICAN WIGEON, 1 GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH,
6 BROWN THRASHERS, 2 CAPE MAY WARBLERS, roughly 100
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, and 1 CONNECTICUT WARBLER.
At the Rock Meadow Conservation Area in Belmont there were 3 HOUSE
WRENS, 3 SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, 1 TENNESSEE WARBLER, 1
SCARLET TANAGER, 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS, 1 WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW, and 1 BLUE GROSBEAK, seen at the Great Meadows
Refuge in Concord were 25 WOOD DUCKS, 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL,
3 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 14 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 2 RUDDY DUCKS,
6 PIED-BILLED GREBES, 2 AMERICAN BITTERNS, 3 GREAT EGRETS,
2 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1
PEREGRINE FALCON, 3 SORAS, 2 AMERICAN COOT, 24 PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS, 14 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS, and
15 AMERICAN PIPITS, and a report from Bolton Flats included 1 PEREGRINE
FALCON, 10 EASTERN PHOEBES, 9 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS,
55 GRAY CATBIRDS, 10 AMERICAN PIPITS, 4 NORTHERN PARULAS,
1 MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 1 BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, 1
CONNECTICUT WARBLER, 37 COMMON YELLOWTHROATS, 1
NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW, 14 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS,
232 SWAMP SPARROWS, and 125 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS.
A SEDGE WREN was found on Saturday at the end of Gooseberry Neck
in Westport, other birds seen in the Westport/South Dartmouth area included
61 GREAT EGRETS, 4 EASTERN SCREECH-OWLS, 3 WHITE-EYED
VIREOS, 1 BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, 9 NORTHERN PARULAS,
and 30 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, and a report from Plymouth included
50 SURF SCOTERS, 100 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, 8 RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS, 8 RED-NECKED GREBES, roughly 100 COMMON
TERNS, 15 FORSTER'S TERNS, roughly 500 unidentified terns, and 100
LAUGHING GULLS.
Miscellaneous reports from the weekend included the EARED GREBE and a
DICKCISSEL at Eastern Point in Gloucester, a REDHEAD at the Cherry Hill
Reservoir in West Newbury, a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and 2 CASPIAN
TERNS in Essex Bay, a WHITE-EYED VIREO at the Dunback Meadows
Conservation Area in Lexington, a YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO at Cold
Spring Park in Newton, an EASTERN KINGBIRD at Mass Audubon's Boston
Nature Center in Mattapan, 3 BLACK SKIMMERS at Castle Island in South
Boston, 93 FORSTER'S TERNS and a BLACK SKIMMER at the Wellfleet
Bay sanctuary in South Wellfleet, roughly 8500 TREE SWALLOWS in
Sandwich, 5000 TREE SWALLOWS a Sandy Neck in Barnstable, and 3
PEREGRINE FALCONS and 10,000 TREE SWALLOWS at Nantucket.
