This is a Rare Bird Alert for Southwestern Ohio (Dayton) for
Wednesday, October 4, 2006, sponsored by The Dayton Audubon
Society.
During the Dayton Audubon Society walk at Englewood MetroPark on
October 1, the following were seen: immature BALD EAGLE, BLACK-BILLED
CUCKOO, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER; RUBY-CROWNED and GOLDEN-CROWNED
KINGLET; BLUE-HEADED and WARBLING VIREO; LEAST FLYCATCHER; SONG and
FIELD SPARROW, BLACK DUCK, and BELTED KINGFISHER.
On October 1 at Englewood MetroPark north park, observed were:
RED-TAILED, SHARP-SHINNED and COOPER'S HAWK; DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT,
OSPREY, and CHIMNEY SWIFT, as well as NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED and TREE
SWALLOW.
On September 26, a GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Caesar Creek
State Park.
At Englewood MetroPark on September 28, seen were: OSPREY, SOLITARY
SANDPIPER, WOOD DUCK, BLUE-WINGED and GREEN-WINGED TEAL, And Great
Egret.
WARBLERS continue to be seen through out the area, although in
diminished numbers.
