This is Dave DeReamus, for the Eastern PA Birdline, sponsored by the Lehigh
Valley Audubon Society, recorded on October 5th at 5:00 PM.
There will be a field trip to Little Gap on October 7th. Meet at the Blue
Mountain Ski Area entrance at 8:30 AM. I will be leading this trip.
There will also be a field trip to Williams Township on October 15th at 9:00
AM. Call Arlene Koch for directions and reservations at (610) 253-6377.
The next Audubon meeting will be held on October 10th at 7:30 PM at the Pool
Wildlife Sanctuary in Emmaus. David Womer will do a program called "For
Goodness Snakes".

NOW FOR THE BIRDS!
Sightings include: MOURNING WARBLER, CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, DICKCISSEL,
CONNECTICUT WARBLER, RING-NECKED PHEASANT, NORTHERN GOSHAWK, PURPLE
GALLINULE, COMMON TERN, GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, and others.
Sightings from the KIRKRIDGE area, Northampton County included:
Red-breasted Nuthatch, Red-eyed Vireo, and Bay-breasted Warbler.
Sightings from WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
MOURNING WARBLER - 1 on 10/1
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW - 1 on 10/1.
Also Great-crested Flycatcher, Common Raven, Prairie and Wilson's Warbler,
and a 'fly-by' Great Black-backed Gull.
Sightings from WILLIAMS TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
DICKCISSEL - 1 on 10/2.
Also Ruby-throated Hummingbird and Cape May Warbler.
Sightings from the SEEMSVILLE area, Northampton County included:
Black-billed Cuckoo - 1 on 10/3.
Sightings from MOORE TOWNSHIP, Northampton County included:
Along Lily Hill Road:
Eastern Wood-Pewee - 1 on 10/4.
Sightings from LITTLE GAP, Northampton County included:
CONNECTICUT WARBLER - 1 on 10/1.
Sightings from the LEHIGH GAP WILDLIFE REFUGE, Carbon County included:
RING-NECKED PHEASANT - 1 on 10/1.
Sightings from BAKE OVEN KNOB, Lehigh County included:
Bald Eagles - 4 on 10/2
NORTHERN GOSHAWK - 1 on 9/30.
Sightings from the MACUNGIE area, Lehigh County included:
PURPLE GALLINULE - 1 from 9/30 to at least 10/5 (immature; at a retention
pond along Scenic Drive).
This bird represents the 1st record for Lehigh County.
To reach this spot, from I-78, take the Route 100 South (Fogelsville) exit.
Follow Route 100 south for 6 miles. Just before reaching Macungie, turn
right at a stoplight (with a McDonald's on the left) onto Alburtis Road. Go
0.5 mile past the Mack Truck plant. Where Alburtis Road goes right, go
straight onto Orchard Road. In 0.3 mile, cross the railroad tracks and then
turn right at the first intersection onto Scenic Drive. Go another 0.3 mile
to the detention pond where the gallinule has been seen.

Blue-winged Teal - 1 on 9/30
Ruddy Ducks - 4 back on 9/27
Bald Eagle - present this past week
American Coot - 1 on 9/30
COMMON TERNS - 9 back on 9/28
GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH - 1 back on 9/24
MOURNING WARBLER - 1 back on 9/24.
Also Common Nighthawk, and Yellow and Blackburnian Warbler.
Sightings from MERRILL CREEK RESERVOIR in nearby New Jersey included:
Caspian Tern - 1 on 9/30.
And, at the Scotts Mountain Hawkwatch:
Bald Eagles - 7 on 9/29 and 10/2
Golden Eagle - 1 on 9/29
Peregrine Falcons - 2 on 9/30 and 10/1.
