EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -

This is the Voice of Audubon for Tuesday, October 10.

A MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was present for at least two hours on
Monday soaring over the south shore of Tuckernuck Island, off the west end
of Nantucket. It has not been seen since.

Also on Monday, a YELLOW RAIL was discovered in the salt marsh off the
south side of Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport, roughly 200 yards off
the road and 100 yards from the river.

Other weekend reports from the Newburyport/Plum Island area included a
EURASIAN WIGEON, 68 AMERICAN WIGEON, 80 NORTHERN PINTAIL,
90 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 47 GREAT EGRETS,
13 SNOWY EGRETS, 1 CLAPPER RAIL, 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS,
140 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, roughly 100 LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
2 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 1 MARBLED GODWIT, 1 WHIMBREL, 260
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 3 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 33
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 COMMON TERNS, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLER, 9 NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, 12 SALTMARSH
SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS, and 1 LAPLAND LONGSPUR.

Seen at the Cherry Hill Reservoir in West Newbury were 1 REDHEAD, 2
unidentified SCAUP, 350 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 80 RUDDY DUCKS,
and 1 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, and at Bolton Flats there were 17 WOOD
DUCKS, 1 AMERICAN WOODCOCK, 2 OSPREY, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER,
11 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 8 EASTERN PHOEBES, 14 AMERICAN
PIPITS, 1 NORTHERN PARULA, 85 SWAMP SPARROWS, 3 LINCOLN'S
SPARROWS, 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, and 1 RUSTY BLACKBIRD.

Miscellaneous reports from the holiday weekend included a GREATER
SHEARWATER and a NORTHERN FULMAR at Stellwagen Bank, a
MAGNOLIA WARBLER and a DICKCISSEL in Newbury, 80 RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS in Groveland, a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, 1 VESPER
SPARROW, and 6 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS in Westborough, 2
NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROWS at Nine-acre Corner in Concord, a
VESPER SPARROW in Nahant, a CAPE MAY WARBLER, a CLAY-COLORED
SPARROW, and a BLUE GROSBEAK in the Fenway section of Boston, and
a NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 2 SANDHILL CRANES, and 13 WHITE-
CROWNED SPARROWS at the Cumberland Farm fields in Middleboro
and Halifax.
