A SANDHILL CRANE was seen briefly at Santa Fe Dam in Irwindale on October 7.

A PECTORAL SANDPIPER and an ARTIC TERN were at the Piute Ponds on Edwards
Air Force Base on October 8. Note that the ponds are closed to the general
public and a letter of permission is required to enter.

An exceptional bird was a RUDDY GROUND-DOVE seen and photographed at a
private residence in La Canada on October 10. This would constitute a first
LA County record.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was reported at Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City on
October 9.

The male VERMILION FLYCATCHER that spent last winter in South El Monte has
returned. The bird is at the soccer fields just southwest of the west end
of Rush Street. The bird was seen on October 11. Take Rush west from
Rosemead Blvd., just north of the 60 Freeway.

Several interesting birds were along the San Gabriel River on October 7. A
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was 1/2 mile south of Slauson, a BROWN PELICAN and two
EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were at Wilderness Park in Downey.

A TENNESSEE WARBLER was at the Village Green Condominiums on October 7. The
bird was behind unit 5119. The condominiums are located at the southwest
corner of Rodeo and South LaBrea. This is private property, but birders are
welcome. Please be thoughtful of the residents.

A GRACE'S WARBLER was found at DeForest Park in Long Beach on October 12.
The bird was seen in the northwest area of the park in the morning, but
could not be refound later in the day. Also present was an AMERICAN
REDSTART in willows south of the Nature Trail and a BELL'S VIREO southwest
of the building near the tennis courts.

A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was at Ed Vincent Park in Inglewood on October 10.
The bird was seen near the park office. Another BLACK-AND-WHITE was at
Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach the same day.

The PAINTED REDSTART that spent last winter at Bonelli Regional Park in San
Dimas has returned. The bird was seen in its usual place at the parking
area near Restroom #8.

A male SUMMER TANAGER was at the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve on October
12. The bird was north of the north entrance to the Wildlife area in an oak
near the concrete bridge over Haskell Creek.
