Highlights
A humming of the SELASPHORUS genus has been coming to a feeder in
Phillips.
A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER were found in South
Portland.
YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKERS were widely reported as were BLACK, SURF and
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS along the coast.
York County
KILLDEER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, SANDERLINGS, and a COMMON LOON were seen
on Drake's Island Beach in Wells. A RAIL species was found at Laudholm
Farm in Wells.
Scarborough Marsh Area
Four SANDERLINGS were at Scarborough Beach, while a RING-NECKED DUCK was
in Massacre Pond.
An AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER and a few BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen on Pine
Point Beach in Scarborough.
At Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center there were 2 GREAT EGRETS, KILLDEER,
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, NORTHERN HARRIER, and 1 BALD EAGLE.
Greater Portland and Western Maine
A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT and an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER were seen from the
paved walkway behind the baseball field at the intersection of Pine
Street and Crescent Avenue in South Portland, along with a PRAIRIE
WARBLER. A DICKCISSEL flew over Bug Light Park in South Portland, 3
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS were seen here as well.
GREATER SCAUP were seen diving and feeding on Back Cove in Portland.
A TENNESSEE WARBLER was foraging with YELLOW-RUMPED and BLACKPOLL
WARBLERS in a Falmouth yard. An estimated 100 PALM WARBLERS along with
100 SWAMP SPARROWS, 150 SONG SPARROWS and 50 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS
were seen in the West Meadow of Gilsland Farm in Falmouth. A SWAINSON'S
THRUSH and many RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS were also observed.
A HORNED GREBE and a PINE SISKIN were at the Cumberland Town Landing, as
were 100 BONAPARTE'S GULLS.
A CAROLINA WREN was seen in Yarmouth.
Twenty-three NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWLS were banded at a banding station in
Freeport.
Four AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were observed on the sod farms in Fryeburg.

A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was found on Bald Mountain, near Weld.
Midcoast
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were eating Mountain Ash berries in a yard in Topsham
while others were reported in West Bath. An AMERICAN BITTERN and a GREEN
HERON were seen at Bradley Pond in Topsham.
An EASTERN TOWHEE was seen at a feeder in Warren.
Central Maine
In Dixmont there were 3 PINE SISKINS, 4 TURKEY VULTURES, and 1 EASTERN
PHOEBE.
A GRAY CATBIRD and a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW were seen along Taylor Road
in Orono. Thirty HOODED MERGANSERS and 1 RING-NECKED DUCK were seen on
the bait ponds in Orono.
Eastern Maine
RUDDY DUCKS, RED-NECKED GREBES, and GREATER SCAUP were seen from East
Cape Road in Stockton Springs.
An expedition to Mount Desert Rock produced ninety-seven species
including 3 NORTHERN FULMAR, 20 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 3 SOOTY
SHEARWATERS, and 1 LEACH'S STORM-PETREL. Migrating raptors were OSPREY,
BALD EAGLE, NORTHERN HARRIER, SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, AMERICAN KESTREL,
MERLIN, and 20 PEREGRINE FALCONS. Thirteen species of sparrows included
FIELD, GRASSHOPPER, and CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS as well as a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR. Nine species of warblers were seen including CAPE MAY,
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, and ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER.
In Eastport there were LAPLAND LONGSPUR, HORNED LARK, 1 WHIMBREL, 200
SCOTERS, mostly SURF, 5 COMMON GOLDENEYE, 1,000 DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS, and 3 GREAT CORMORANTS.
Northern Maine
In Fort Kent there were a good number of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, 1 CAPE
MAY WARBLER, and DARK-EYED JUNCOS.
Many CHIPPING SPARROWS and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS are being seen in
Houlton.
