This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, October 13 at 1:30 p.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to

The ZONE-TAILED HAWK has returned for its 14th winter and was seen Wednesday
afternoon at 4:30 soaring over Fairview and Cathedral Oaks Road. The bird
can often be found at the top of North Fairview Avenue in Goleta.
A PINE WARBLER was found this morning on Vandenberg AFB. This is private
property.
On Atascadero Creek this week, east and west of the end of Walnut, were a
first fall female MAGNOLIA WARBLER, a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, two
CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES, and a CASSIN'S VIREO.
At Devereux Slough, seven WHITE PELICANS were seen on Monday, plus a
BLUE-WINGED TEAL and a PEREGRINE FALCON.
On the grounds of the Natural History Museum, a female BLACKPOLL WARBLER and
a WINTER WREN were seen on Wednesday.
At the Bird Refuge in Santa Barbara, seven WOOD DUCKS were present on
Monday. Also, there continues to be up to 75 BLACK SKIMMERS on East Beach.
At the Goleta Sewage Ponds, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER was still present on
Wednesday, near the east end of the row of small sludge ponds.
A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER was found on Tuesday in the pepper tree where it
wintered before, near the intersection of Kellogg Avenue and Capellina Way.
The CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER continued at Refugio State Beach on Sunday.
On Saturday, a female AMERICAN REDSTART was on Tecolotito Creek, about 250
yards west of Los Canernos.
On Sunday, there was a VESPER SPARROW where Phelps Road crosses over Phelps
ditch in Goleta.
A BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER was seen in La Mesa Park on Sunday, between the
playground and the creek.
At Elings Park in Santa Barbara, a juvenile BLACK-THROATED SPARROW was seen
on Saturday where Calle Montilla dead-ends at the park.
A PALM WARBLER was seen in the Manzanita Village natural area on the
southwest UCSB campus on Wednesday.
At Carpinteria Creek on Sunday, two PLUMBEOUS VIREOS and a YELLOW-BREASTED
CHAT were seen south of 6th Street.
A LEWIS'S WOODPECKER was reported from near the nature center at Cachuma
Lake on Monday.
Both the CACKLING GOOSE and the ROSS'S GOOSE remain in the front pond at
Waller Park in Santa Maria. A GRACE'S WARBLER has been seen off and on
around Area 3 in the park also.
On Tuesday, at the Santa Maria Sewage Plant, there was an unconfirmed report
of a RED-THROATED PIPIT. That bird was not seen again. On Monday, a PECTORAL
SANDPIPER and 23 WHITE-FACED IBIS were here.
At the Santa Ynez River mouth on Sunday, a BLACKPOLL WARBLER was feeding
near the train trestle.
