EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Friday, September 9.
Reports from Plum Island this week have included roughly 100 GREEN-
WINGED TEAL, 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 1
AMERICAN BITTERN, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 2 VIRGINIA RAILS, 1
SORA, 1 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, 2 HUDSONIAN GODWITS, 2
MARBLED GODWITS, and 1 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, and seen
on a boat trip from Newburyport to points east were 35 GREATER
SHEARWATERS, 2 SOOTY SHEARWATERS, 2 MANX SHEARWATERS,
and 2 unidentified phalaropes.
Sightings at the Great Meadows Refuge in Concord included 61 GREEN-
WINGED TEAL, 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1 BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, 7 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS,
22 LEAST SANDPIPERS, and 6 WILSON'S SNIPE, and a report from
the Nobscot conservation area in Sudbury today included a PHILADELPHIA
VIREO, 2 TENNESSEE WARBLERS, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLER, a NORTHERN PARULA, 3 BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLERS, 3 BLACKPOLL WARBLERS, and a DARK-EYED JUNCO.
At Nantucket this week there was a PEREGRINE FALCON, a MARBLED
GODWIT, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, 1 FORSTER'S TERN, 13
BLACK TERNS, 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, and 1 CONNECTICUT
WARBLER, and miscellaneous reports have included 2 WESTERN
KINGBIRDS at the Daniel Webster Sanctuary in Marshfield, and a
CATTLE EGRET in Manchester.
