WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Tuesday October 17, 2006

At Turners Falls at the power canal, 2 CACKLING GEESE were present until
Saturday. They were among hundreds of Canada geese.

Also seen in Turners Falls were a GADWALL, 7 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 4 AMERICAN
WIGEON, a PIED-BILLED GREBE, 6 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 5 RUDDY DUCKS, and 8 EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS.

At Quabbin Park there were 7 COMMON LOONS, 7 HORNED GREBES, a RED-NECKED
GREBE, 2 AMERICAN COOTS, a YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, 12 RUBY-CROWNED and 5
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, 9 HERMIT THRUSH, a WINTER WREN, 2 BLACK-THROATEDBLUE
WARBLERS, and 10 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS.

Seen in Northampton on the meadows were an AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, a MERLIN, 3
TREE SWALLOWS, a FISH CROW, 20 AMERICAN PIPITS, 20 PALM WARBLERS, a BLACKPOLL
WARBLER, and 32 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER and a RED-EYED VIREO were noted in Springfield,an
AMERICAN COOT was seen in Longmeadow, 24 RUDDY DUCKS were reported in Ludlow,
and a BLACKPOLL and a NASHVILLE WARBLER in Southampton.

Found in Holyoke at Ashley Ponds were an AMERICAN COOT, 8 RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCH, 7 BROWN CREEPERS, 9 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, 6 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, a
SWAINSON’S THRUSH, and a WINTER WREN.

Seen in Northfield were 220 SWAMP SPARROWS, 10 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, and a
LINCOLN’S SPARROW, and reported in Westfield were 7 BLUE-HEADED VIREOS,5
HERMIT THRUSH, and a BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER.

Four GOLDEN-CROWNED and 46 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS were found in Granville,a
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and 85 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen in
Southwick, and 2 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were reported in Belchertown.
