Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for October 19,
2006. This report covers the period from October 13th to October 19th and
will be updated again on October 26th.

An EARED GREBE was found on Trustom Pond in South Kingston on the 17th. It
was seen from the platform at Osprey Point. From Otter Point came a sighting
of a COMMON MOORHEN on the 15th. Other birds at Trustom this week included:
1 AMERICAN BITTERN, 1 REDHEAD, 11 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO and
1 NORTHERN PARULA.

Nearby Mud Pond was breached this week, allowing exposed mud which attracted
a SORA. This bird was seen on the 19th.

In a cut cornfield along Moonstone Beach Road, 20 AMERICAN PIPIT were
reported on the 17th.

On the 18th, 3 CASPIAN TERN were found at the Ninigret Pond tidal flats at
the Charlestown Breachway.

Reported on the 14th and 17th, 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL at Ninigret NWR.
A WILSON'S SNIPE was also observed on the 17th.

At Avondale Preserve in Westerly, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 1 NASHVILLE
WARBLER, 1 YELLOW WARBLER, 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW and 3 INDIGO BUNTING on the
14th.

A BALD EAGLE was reported along the Blackstone River in Lincoln this week.
