This is the Santa Barbara Audubon Society's rare bird report being recorded
on Friday, October 20 at 11:30 a.m. If you have a rare bird sighting to

The ZONE-TAILED HAWK has returned for its 14th winter. The bird can often be
found at the top of North Fairview Avenue at Cuesta Verde in Goleta.
A second PINE WARBLER was found yesterday on Vandenberg AFB. This is private
property.
At Devereux Slough, six GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were present yesterday,
along with a LESSER YELLOWLEGS.
A single SURFBIRD was at Campus Point on the UCSB campus on Tuesday.
At the Manzanita Village housing complex at UCSB, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was
found last Saturday in the restoration area.
Three CATTLE EGRETS were at Goleta Beach on Wednesday.
There are up to 200 BLACK SKIMMERS wintering on East Beach.
A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER continues in the pepper tree where it wintered before,
near the intersection of Kellogg Avenue and Capellina Way in Goleta.
At Carpinteria Creek yesterday, a CASSIN'S VIREO was at the end of 6th
Street. On Monday, a bright adult male BALTIMORE ORIOLE and a PLUMBEOUS
VIREO were in the same location. Last Sunday, a first fall HAMMOND's
FLYCATCHER was on the creek, between 6th and 8th Streets.
On Wednesday, on La Cumbre Peak were a GOLDEN EAGLE, two VARIED THRUSHES,
two MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, and one NORTHERN PYGMY OWL
At the marina at Cachuma Lake, two CATTLE EGRETS were seen on Tuesday.
Highlights of the boat trips last week included two adult BALD EAGLES, a
MERLIN, a PEREGRINE FALCON, and up to seven WOOD DUCKS.
Both the CACKLING GOOSE and the ROSS'S GOOSE remain in the front pond at
Waller Park in Santa Maria.
On Wednesday, at the pastures near the Guadalupe Sewage Plant, there were
four PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS and four PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, as well as a
VESPER SPARROW. The same day, a CATTLE EGRET was at the Santa Maria Sewage
Plant.
