Two SNOW GEESE were seen flying over Peck Pit (Peck Road Water Conservation
Park) in Arcadia on December 2. A PALM WARBLER was also at Peck Pit the
same day. This bird was west of the parking area near the shore between the
north and south half of the lake. The the Myrtle exit south from the 210
Freeway and watch for the park entrance on your right past Live Oak.

Six GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and a female EURASIAN WIGEON were at the
Angeles National Golf Club along Tujunga Wash on December 3. Exit the 210
Freeway at Wheatland and take Foothill east to the golf course and wash.
The birds can usually be observed from the road. When seen on December 3
they were foraging on the fairway.

Another EURASIAN WIGEON (this one a male) has returned to Almansor Park in
Alhambra. This bird was reported on December 5.

A LONG-TAILED DUCK was in the scoter flock off Dockwelier State Beach in El
Segundo on December 2. WHITE-WINGED and BLACK SCOTERS have been regular in
this flock over the last few weeks as well. View from the Hyperion Overlook
parking area or near Lifeguard Platform #58 on the beach.

Two HOODED MERGANSERS were at Hahmongna Watershed Park (formerly Devil's
Gate Basin) on December 3. The birds were in the small pond just northeast
of the dam.

A large flock of over 170 MOUNTAIN PLOVER were seen on December 4 in the
Antelope Valley. The location is 110th Street East and Avenue J. Also
present here were several FERRUGINOUS HAWKS and about 35 MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS.

The ROCK SANDPIPER at the Ballona Creek Mouth in Playa del Rey was reported
through December 6. From the west end of the 90 Freeway, take Culver west
to Pacific. Go right onto Pacific to the end and park. From here you can
walk out on the middle and south jetties to look for the bird. It can be
difficult to spot since it often forages near the water and between the
rocks.

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD was seen through December 4 at Banning Park in
Wilmington. It was last reported northeast of the mansion. Also seen here
on December 4 was an adult male BALTIMORE ORIOLE at the rear of the mansion.

A late WESTERN KINGBIRD was at Ed Vincent Park in Inglewood on December 7.
The bird was seen near the baseball diamonds.

PAINTED REDSTARTS continue at Bonelli Park in San Dimas (near Restroom #8)
and at Elysian Park in the Solano Canyon area (take Park Drive north from
Academy Road and look for the bird near the picnic area/playground on your
right).

WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continue at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach and at
Descanso Gardens (Rose Garden near the southeast entrance) in La Canada.

This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
