This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, December 8th,
2006.
An EARED GREBE was discovered off of Seal Rocks on November 30th and has
regularly been seen in that area since then. It was last reported on
December 7th. Seal Rocks is located just north of Wallis Sands, in Rye.
A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen on Lower Kimball Pond in South
Chatham on December 6th and 7th. It was with a flock of over 120 CANADA
GEESE.
A BLACK VULTURE was seen in flight near the Wal-Mart on Route 101A in
Amherst on December 4th.
An immature male KING EIDER was seen along with several COMMON EIDER from
rocks at a point north of Bicentennial Park in Hampton on December 2nd.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen at Frost Point at Odiorne Point State
Park in Rye on December 2nd, and one was seen at the Newmarket Town Landing
on the Lamprey River on December 7th.
An ICELAND GULL was seen near the Yankee Fisherman's Coop in Seabrook on
December 2nd.
4 ICELAND GULLS and a NORTHERN PINTAIL were seen at the Rochester Waste
Water Treatment Plant and Pickering Ponds on December 5th. The treatment
plant is gated and the hours of operation are 7:30-3:00 on weekdays. If you
visit, please check in at the office and be out of the plant by 2:45 so that
plant personnel do not have to ask birders to leave. Do not drive on the
dikes and do not block the road. The Trails at Pickering Ponds, located east
of the plant, are not gated, and are always open during daylight hours.
A RAZORBILL was seen off Bicentennial Park in Hampton and one was seen off
of Little Boar's Head in North Hampton, both on December 2nd.
A female CAPE MAY WARBLER, was seen on Myrica Avenue in Rye on December 3rd.
It was feeding in trees along the western shore of a small pond near Route
1A.
A YELLOW WARBLER, 4 female NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 5 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 14
AMERICAN COOT, a RING-NECKED DUCK, a LESSER SCAUP and 2 SNOW BUNTINGS were
all seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant on December 3rd.
An AMERICAN BITTERN and 2 NORTHERN HARRIERS were seen behind Little Jack's
restaurant, which is located on Route 1A in Hampton north of Route 101, on
December 3rd.
A BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 3 LESSER SCAUP, 3 RING-NECKED DUCKS, and 8 AMERICAN COOT
were seen on Eel Pond in Rye on December 2nd. An AMERICAN WIGEON was seen at
South Mill Pond in Portsmouth on December 7th.
A RED-THROATED LOON was seen on Skatutakee Lake in Harrisville on December
7th, and one was seen on Wilson Pond in Swanzey on December 3rd.
116 AMERICAN COOT were seen on Powwow Pond in Kingston on December 7th.
20 PURPLE SANDPIPERS were seen at Hampton Beach State Park, 23 were seen at
Foss Beach in Rye, and 16 were seen at Seal Rocks in Rye, all on December
5th.
About 20 TURKEY VULTURES were seen at a roost in downtown Newmarket on
December 6th.
18 AMERICAN PIPITS were seen at the Nashua landfill on December 5th.
A HERMIT THRUSH was seen in Manchester on December 7th.
A WINTER WREN was seen in Deering on December 7th.
