Bolsa Chica Preserve: Two REDDISH EGRETS have been reported this week
(including today) as well as a COMMON LOON. An AMERICAN BITTERN continues to
be seen looking north from the boardwalk (today). Also at Bolsa has been a
female HOODED MERGANSER, SNOW GEESE (back fields), and two GREEN-TAILED
TOWHEES. One location that a Green-tailed Towhee was seen on Tuesday
was....If you park at the end of Los Patos by Bolsa Chica Road, then cross
Bolsa Chica Road and walk straight along the fence until it ends, turn
right, continue along the fence & down the hill to the area by the bean
fields, after you get to the bottom of the hill, turn right and head toward
the ocean. You'll immediately see a myaporum bush where trails go both
sides. If you take the right side along this bush, ahead of you are more
bushes and small trees just below the hillside. Going straight in is where
the bird was.
San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary: The RED-THROATED PIPIT continues to be
irregularly reported around Pond C (Dec 2nd), and an adult male VERMILION
FLYCATCHER and a juvenile was reported on Monday at the intersection of
ponds 1, 2, & 3. Also reported at the Sanctuary this week was a
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, and the continuing GRAY FLYCATCHER.
San Juan Capistrano: CACKLING GOOSE foraging with coot flock at the San Juan
Hills Golf Course off of San Juan Creek Rd (today) and the continuing flock
of EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES best seen at the power line/pole near the
entrance of the trailer park on Camino Capistrano below Stonehill.
Huntington Central Park: A probable PALM WARBLER on Tuesday just north of
the library, and the wintering BLACK & WHITE WARBLER across the ditch from
the Slater Street parking lot. On Monday a SUMMER TANAGER near the ballpark
restaurant and a male BALTIMORE ORIOLE north of the island area on Monday.
Aldrich Park (UCI): Immature male BALTIMORE ORIOLE on Sunday ($2 parking
fee)... enter the park from the Bison entrance, take a right and walk about
50 yards...bird in the Eucalyptus trees.
Pacific View Memorial Park, Corona del Mar: adult male BALTIMORE ORIOLE on
Sunday....once you enter the park, take an immediate right and walk to the
red flowering trees ahead of you.... also in area was a female Bullock's
Oriole, and to the left of the entrance in the tall pine trees a BROWN
CREEPER. On the 5th a VARIED THRUSH was reported from the cemetery.
Old El Toro Marine Base...scoped from outside gate from parking lot off of
Irvine between Alton Pkwy and Pusan on Sat: FERRUGINOUS HAWK, PRAIRIE
FALCON, GOLDEN EAGLE.
Village Pond Park: EURASIAN WIGEON
Laguna Niguel Regional Park Saturday: PEREGRINE FALCON, LEAST BITTERN
(calling), AMERICAN REDSTART.
Castille Park Saturday (Mission Viejo): BROWN CREEPER
