Welcome to the Birding Hotline for interior Alaska as of December
5, 2006.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen catching a COMMON REDPOLL
at a bird feeder off of Bradway road on December 3.

Two SLATE-COLORED JUNCOs have been coming into a feeder on
Steele Creek Road for about a month. They were most recently seen on
December 3. Two more SLATE-COLORED JUNCOs continue to be
seen at a feeder at Love Road.

A BROWN CREEPER was seen in the area of Potter and Cripple Creek
Roads also on December 3.

A BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE was seen at the top of the hayfields at
4 miles Chena Hot Springs Road on November 29.

A RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was seen at a bird feeder in North
Pole on November 28.

A juvenile male NORTHERN GOSHAWK was at the Alaska Bird
Observatory bird feeders on November 28.

Upcoming events include:
The Fairbanks Feeder Count will take place on December 16, 2006, and
March 3, 2007. This is a citizen science program sponsored by the Alaska
Bird Observatory and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
Participants count birds at their feeders on up to three Saturdays
(or within a week of that date) over the winter and report their findings
on a datasheet. Participation is free. For more information about the
Fairbanks Feeder Count, contact ABO at 451-7159
or birds@alaskabird.org.

The Fairbanks Christmas Bird Count will occur on Saturday,
December 30. For more information, contact Gail Mayo at 479-2954.
