In Rio Arriba County:
SL had a TUNDRA SWAN a mile at a pond on US 95 on the way to Heron Lake SP
on November 30.

In San Miguel County:
JP and WW on December 2 had four TUNDRA SWANS on McAllister Lake near Las
Vegas (one immature) and CACKLING GEESE.
BW advises that the Clabber Hill Ranch near Conchas Lake is now closed to
birding.

In Colfax County:
JP and WW on the Maxwell Refuge saw the NORTHERN SHRIKE again near Lake 13
with three Tundra Swans far off on the lake. They also had up to nine
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE in the Lake 13 area. DC saw the swans and geese on December 3.
On Lake 13 he saw a female WHITE-WINGED SCOTER.
Near Stubblefield Lake they saw a LAPLAND LONGSPUR, a columbarius MERLIN,
and a FERRUGINOUS HAWK. There was an adult male BARROW'S GOLDENEYE on the lake.
At the owl roost at the west side of Laguna Madre north of Stubblefield
there was on December 2 five LONG-EARED OWLS and 45 TREE SPARROWS.
At Springer Lake DC on November 23 had 200 LAPLAND LONGSPURS with ten
CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS. He saw 75 on November 27. They seem to come in from
elsewhere for water. On the lake on Decenber 2 DC saw a male and female
BARROW'S GOLDENEYE.
On I-25 at mile marker 424 two miles south of Maxwell he saw two GOLDEN
EAGLES and a FERRUGINOUS HAWK on November 20. One or both of the eagles were
present November 27 and December 2.
At Sugarite State Park near Raton on November 22 DC had two ACORN
WOODPECKERS at Lake Alice.
On Eagle Nest Lake on November 21 DC saw eight CALIFORNIA GULLS, and three
immature BALD EAGLES. At the Cimarron Canyon SP east of town there was a
DIPPER and a WINTER WREN. On December 1 DC had three ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS at Eagle
Nest with eight TREE SPARROWS at the state Park. He counted ten COLLARED
DOVES near the library with a female WOOD DUCK near the river bridge close to
the St. James Hotel.

In Harding County:
DC on November 18 had a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK near Mosquero and another north of
Roy.

In Quay County:
At Ute Lake State Park near Logan on November 18 DC saw two RUSTY BLACKBIRDS
near the headquarters with a BROWN THRASHER, a male YELLOW-SHAFTED FLICKER,
a pair of WOOD DUCKS, three COMMON LOONS, and 11 HORNED GREBES. At nearby
Hudson Lake there were eight CACKLING GEESE.

In Cibola County:
CR and SD on November 25 at Bluewater Lake found an immature BLACK-LEGGED
KITTIWAKE. They also had 131 PINYON JAYS at the lake and two WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS in Bluewater Canyon above Bluewater Village. The west side of the
lake is closed for the winter, so the Prewitt (east) entrance is to be taken off
I-40. It was seen later in the day by JP and BP. CB found it on November
26 with a HORNED GREBE on the lake. WW and JB saw it on November 27.

In Bernalillo County:
JK found four WILSON'S SNIPE on the Tramway Wetlands in Albuquerque on
November 30.
DM on November 24 saw 14 AVOCETS in the Rio Grande 1/4 mile north of the
Alameda Bridge in Albuquerque.
At the Rio Grande Nature Center in Albuquerque JP on November 19 saw a high
count of 480 CACKLING GEESE with four SNOW GEESE. JK found a WESTERN GREBE
on the Rio Grande by the center on November 30.
HS at Rinconada Canyon at the Petroglyph NM saw an Arctic PEREGINE FALCON
on November 24.
At the Sandia Crest House east of Albuquerque the SNC team on November 26
banded 26 BLACK ROSY-FINCHES. The flock numbered about 90, all Blacks. CR snd
BN on December 2 had the Hepburn's subspecies present. JP on November 22
had a female RED CROSSBILL with a MERLIN at Sandia Park on the way up. DB on
November 24-25 recorded 75 Blacks and up to five GRAY-CROWNED. He had a
Slate-colored form of FOX SPARROW at the Capulin Springs Picnic Area on the way up
on November 25.

In Torrance County:
BH saw an AVOCET on the Mountainair Sewage Ponds on November 30.

In Guadalupe County:
DB had an adult PACIFIC LOON on Santa Rosa Lake on November 25 near the boat
launch.

In DeBaca County:
RC found a COMMON LOON and a first year HERRING GULL on Sumner Lake on
November 23.

In Roosevelt County:
DB on November 23 had a FIELD SPARROW at the intersection of NM 206 and CR
258 near Milnesand. He had about 150 CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS on NM 258
near Milnesand November 23.

In Chaves County:
JH had a TUNDRA SWAN on Bitter Lake Refuge on Unit 5 on December 1. He
reports on a count at the refuge on November 1 an AMERICAN BITTERN, and a female
WOOD DUCK. On November 21 there was an EASTERN PHOEBE at the headquarters.
He also reported a FERRUGINOUS HAWK west of the refuge on November 19. Eight
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were on the refuge on November 28 with an immature BALD
EAGLE on November 25 and 29.

In Socorro County:
At Bosque del Apache Refuge near San Antonio on November 17-18 CB reported
four WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and several EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. CL and DP on November
19 had the WHITE-THROATED SPARROW at the feeders, a SWAMP SPARROW, and a
HARLAN'S HAWK. JP on November 18 saw the White-throated Sparrow. DB saw four
of the geese, 16 WESTERN GREBES and nine CLARK'S GREBES on November 23. On
November 25 JP saw the phoebe and two of the White-throated Sparrows. A late
report for the refuge on November 17 is by JG of a LONG-EARED OWL.

In Lincoln County:
SW on November 25 saw a female HOODED MERGANSER on Alto Lake.

In Sierra County:
At Percha Dam State Park JP and BP saw the DIPPER on November 24 on the
river just south of the fence. Also seen were two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and
many CEDAR WAXWINGS. SB on November 16 found a HARLAN'S HAWK in the fields
south of the park. CL had the Harlan's Hawk in the area on November 19.
JP reported two BLACK-TAILED GNATCATCHERS in the park below Caballo Dam on
November 25 with many EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, a HOUSE WREN, and five WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS.
At Seco Flats at Caballo Lake on December 3 DH saw an adult LITTLE BLUE
HERON, CACKLING GEESE, a WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, five BONAPARTE'S GULLS, and a
HORNED GREBE.
JP saw two INCA DOVES and another HOUSE WREN in Paseo del Rio Park below
Elephant Butte Dam.

In Catron County:
JDB had two DIPPERS on Mineral Creek on November 15 with a PYGMY OWL at the
Whitewater Canyon Catwalk near Glenwood.

In Grant County:
RS had a BALD EAGLE at the Gila Bird Farm on November 24.
PINYON JAYS have appeared in numbers in the Silver City area in early
November.

In Hidalgo County:
County Hwy. 1 south of Animas crosses the Diamond A (Gray) Ranch. Because
of events with thoughtless birders, one must not go off the road.

In Luna County:
JP and BP on November 24 had a richardsoni MERLIN at Pancho Villa SP near
Columbus. On county hwy. 4 at a pond they had three CINNAMON TEAL.
The waste treatment ponds in Deming have been closed for construction and
birding till further notice.

In Doņa Ana County:
JN on November 30 found water still in Isaack's Lake with many ducks and
sparrows present, as well as a WHITE-TAILED KITE.
JZ and MS have had a female RUDDY GROUND-DOVE at their home near Radium
Springs for several weeks, seen well November 18 and 24, but appears irregularly.
They also have had two immature males and a female ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRDS.
At his home in Mesilla on November 28 JN had a SWAMP SPARROW with the male
VERMILION FLYCATCHER still present.
DG had an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD at his home in northeast Las Cruces at least
through November 25. Also seen was a SHARP-SHINNED HAWK on November 22 and 24.
There has been an invasion of CROWS in the Rio Grande area near Las Cruces.
JD reported up to 5000 on the east side of the Rio opposite the Mesilla
Valley Park. CL had an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER at Mesilla Park on December 2. He
had an EASTERN PHOEBE and two to three WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS of both forms
at the NMSU Plant Science Research Center, with a late female WILSON'S
WARBLER a mile north of Mesilla Dam, with two SWAMP SPARROWS along the ditch.
The Crows were at the Mesilla Valley Bosque Park on November 19 with an
AMERICAN BITTERN by LM, EL, and others.

In Otero County:
BB at his home south of Alamogordo near Dog Canyon till at least November 12
had an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD.
At the Holloman Lakes near Alamogordo the "no access" signs are for hunters
only. The entire shore is open to birding. A board has been installed for
birders to list their sightings. BB on November 22 at the lakes saw a DUNLIN
with 90 LEAST SANDPIPERS. SW reported the Dunlin on November 25. CL and CBr
had it on November 29.

In Eddy County:
SW on November 18 had an OSPREY and a PEREGRINE FALCON along the Pecos River
in Carlsbad.

In Lea County:
PMc had an immature male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD at his feeder near Eunice on
November 26.
DB on November 23 had a GOLDEN EAGLE adult on NM 200 a mile north of
Crossroads. There were 125 CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPURS on NM 206 north of Tatum.`
RC saw a MERLIN in Hobbs on November 24.

Margaret Wallen at 341-0928. Check as there may be a last minute change in
plans. December 7 is the Four Hills Open Space with Melissa Howard, December
14 to Bosque del Apache with Sylvia Fee, and on December 21 to the Rio Grande
Nature Center with Madge Wallen. No trip is planned for December 28.
