ALLEGHENY COUNTY:
On 11/28 in East Liberty, 1 Brown Thrasher (DY).
Along Moody Road on 12/1, 1 AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1
RING-NECKED DUCK; on 12/2 an adult PEREGRINE FALCON was seen chasing
Mourning Doves here; also present were 2 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS and a drake
GREEN-WINGED TEAL (MV).
On 12/2 at the Emsworth Lock & Dam, 2 Common Loons, 8 Double-crested
Cormorants (MV).
BEAVER COUNTY:
On 12/1 in New Brighton, 11 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 3 Wood Ducks (MV).
At Little Blue Lake on 12/1, 8 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS (MV).
On 12/1 at Ambridge Reservoir, 1 Common Loon; also observed was an
eight-point buck swimming across the lake; on 12/2, TUNDRA SWANS were heard
(MV).
On 12/1 a male Ring-necked Pheasant was seen along Rt.68 in Industry (MV).
On the Beaver & Ohio Rivers on 12/2 there was an influx of Herring Gulls and
Ring-billed Gulls (MV).
On 12/2 a subadult BALD EAGLE was seen perched along Raccoon Creek (MV); it
was also seen on 12/3 (SG).
There were 12 Hooded Mergansers at the Three Rivers gravel pond on 12/2 (MV).
On 12/2 a TRUMPETER SWAN continues to be present at the Big Beaver Wetlands
(MV).
BUTLER COUNTY:
At Moraine State Park on 12/3, a RED-NECKED GREBE was seen from the overlook
at South Shore, and 24 flyover TUNDRA SWANS (reported to MV by Debbie
Darney; MV); also present that day were 7 Pied-billed Grebes, 1 REDHEAD, 113
RING-NECKED DUCKS, 16 BUFFLEHEADS, 89 RUDDY DUCKS, 2 Common Loons, 1 BALD
EAGLE, 29 GADWALL, 1 NORTHERN SHOVELER, 11 Hooded Mergansers, 2 GREATER
SCAUP, 9 LESSER SCAUP; at the Upper 528 boat launch, 21 GADWALL, 3
BUFFLEHEADS, 2 Pied-billed Grebes (MV). A COMMON MERGANSER was seen from the
South Shore (reported to MV by DY).
CLARION COUNTY:
On 11/30 an adult BALD EAGLE was perched along the Allegheny River in the
Sarah Furnace area near East Brady (CW).
In Sligo on 12/2, sightings included AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 4 PURPLE
FINCHES (CW).
ERIE COUNTY:
From last week: on 11/19 in Waterford, 1 white-phase SNOW GOOSE (JM).
At Presque Isle State Park this week, waterbird counts at Sunset Point
included AMERICAN WIGEON, LESSER SCAUP, WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, COMMON
GOLDENEYES, COMMON MERGANSERS, thousands of RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS,
RED-THROATED LOONS, Common Loons, HORNED GREBES, 1 BRANT (on 11/28),
BUFFLEHEADS, 1 PURPLE SANDPIPER on 11/28 and 11/30, 1 SNOW BUNTING (11/28),
TUNDRA SWANS, REDHEADS, BLACK SCOTERS, GREATER SCAUP, thousands of
LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL (12/3), RING-NECKED DUCKS, SURF
SCOTERS, Hooded Mergansers, 1 RED-NECKED GREBE (12/3), 3 DUNLIN (12/3); also
seen on 11/27 was 1 male NORTHERN HARRIER (JM).
On 12/2 after the previous evening's storms, the Lake Erie waterbird count
was conducted from Manchester Beach at the mouth of Walnut Creek, and
sightings included 16 LESSER SCAUP, 147 unidentified Scaup, 11 SURF/BLACK
SCOTERS, 3,795 LONG-TAILED DUCKS, 27 BUFFLEHEADS, 88 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 20
Hooded Mergansers, 3 COMMON MERGANSERS, 3,295 RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, 2
RED-THROATED LOONS, 46 Common Loons, 3 unidentified Loons, 2 HORNED GREBES,
1 RED-NECKED GREBE (JM).
FAYETTE COUNTY:
On 12/2 at Jacob's Creek Lake, 20 American Coots, 1 Pied-billed Grebe, 3
GADWALL, 6 LESSER SCAUP (MF).
MERCER COUNTY:
From last week: At Shenango Lake on 11/25, sightings included 2 adult BALD
EAGLES (SG).
SOMERSET COUNTY:
4 CAVE SWALLOWS were seen on 12/1 on the border of Somerset and Bedford
County near the Alleghany Front Hawkwatch (ML).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
On 11/30 at Washington Cemetery, there were 2 NORTHERN PINTAILS at the pond,
one male and one female; on 12/3, 1 Red-breasted Nuthatch and 2
Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers (LC).
On 11/30 at Reservoir #4, 6 Pied-billed Grebes (LC).
At the Greencove Wetlands on 12/3, 1 blue-phase SNOW GOOSE, TUNDRA SWANS, 30
AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS, 10-13 SWAMP SPARROWS, 20-30 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS,
15-20 White-throated Sparrows, 5 FOX SPARROWS (RG).
Elsewhere in State Gamelands #232 on 12/3, 2 COMMON RAVENS, 1 Eastern
Phoebe, WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, White-throated Sparrows, 9 SWAMP SPARROWS, 1
FOX SPARROW (RG).
WESTMORELAND COUNTY:
On 12/2 in Forbes State Forest, 2 flocks of TUNDRA SWANS totaling 125 birds
were observed over Hunter Lane (DB).
At Donegal Lake on 12/2, 1 BUFFLEHEAD (MF).
On 12/2 in Saltsburg, 1 Double-crested Cormorant was flying low over
Kiskimenetas River (AT).
