Of Special Note

The ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER at the Saco Yacht Club was last seen on December
2. A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT continues to be seen further down the power lines.

A DOVEKIE and a POMARINE JAEGER were seen at Dyer Point in Cape Elizabeth on
December 4.

A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE lingers at Collins Pond in Caribou, while a
second was found on Kimball Pond in Fryeburg.

DARK-EYED JUNCOS and winter finches were widely reported moving through the
state.

York County

Two NORTHERN FLICKERS, 60 CEDAR WAXWINGS, and 3 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were at
Barrell Mill Pond in York.

Species seen on Marginal Way in Ogunquit included NORTHERN GANNET, and
HARLEQUIN DUCK, while BLACK GUILLEMOT, RED-THROATED LOON, RED-NECKED GREBE
and YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER were seen at the Cliff House.

A BARROW’S GOLDENEYE was seen off of Drake’s Island beach in Wells. The
Wells Reserve hosted a late BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and a MERLIN and
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER were seen elsewhere on the Wells Reserve.

A BELTED KINGFISHER continues in Goose Rocks in Kennebunk. Two TURKEY
VULTURES were seen near the Kennebunk turnpike exchange, while 25
SANDERLINGS were at Kennebunk Beach.

At Biddeford Pool there was a lingering DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT.

The ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER at the Saco Yacht Club, on Front Street in Saco,
was last seen on December 2. A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT continues to be seen
further down the power lines. A WINTER WREN was found at Laurel Hill
Cemetery in Saco.

Scarborough Marsh Area

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was at Fuller Farm on Broadturn Road in Scarborough. Also
present were a RUFFED GROUSE and a COMMON RAVEN.

Five EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were observed near Grondin Pond.

A CAROLINA WREN visited feeders in West Scarborough.

Greater Portland and Western Maine

A DOVEKIE was seen at Dyer Point in Cape Elizabeth on December 4. Other
birds included 11 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, 9 HARLEQUIN DUCKS, 1 POMARINE JAEGER, 10
adult BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, and a RAZORBILL. A BROWN THRASHER and a
SAVANNAH SPARROW were at Crescent Beach State Park in Cape Elizabeth.

An immature BALD EAGLE was feeding on a seal carcass which had washed on
shore across from Payson Park, along Baxter Boulevard in Portland. The BALD
EAGLE was banded as a chick this spring on Square Pond in Shapleigh. A
TURKEY VULTURE was seen on December 2 in Portland, and 6 more were seen in
South Portland on the same date. Over the weekend a TURKEY VULTURE was seen
in Gorham.

There were 7 HOODED MERGANSERS on Beaver Pond in the center of Westbrook.

Two YELLOW-SHAFTED FLICKERS were seen at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in
Falmouth on December 7.

A CAROLINA WREN was at a feeding station in Yarmouth.

A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was on Lower Kimball Pond in Fryeburg.

Midcoast

Feeders in Brunswick and Harpswell each hosted a BALTIMORE ORIOLE.

A PIED-BILLED GREBE was in a marsh in Woolwich. An immature RED-HEADED
WOODPECKER was seen on Chopps Point Road, in Woolwich. The bird was seen
along Merrymeeting Bay on Merrymeeting Fields Preserve of the Lower Kennebec
Regional Land Trust.

Two NORTHERN HARRIERS and a CAROLINA WREN were in Phippsburg.

Observed at Camden Hills State Park were a flock of 18 WHITE-WINGED
CROSSBILLS passing over the summit and a single RED CROSSBILL called just
below the summit.

Two RAZORBILLS were off the breakwater in Rockland on December 5. A
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was at the Owl's Head Light State Park.

Eastern Maine

A RUSTY BLACKBIRD has been visiting a feeder in Blue Hill.

Central Maine

Ten BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and a NORTHERN SHRIKE were on Eight Rod Road in Augusta.

A SNOW BUNTING and a COOPER’S HAWK were in Wilton.

An ICELAND GULL was in Dixmont.

Northern Maine

The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen with 540 CANADA GEESE at Collins
Pond in Caribou on December 1.

The RED-NECKED GREBE continued at Arnold Brook Lake and was keeping an eye
on an adult BALD EAGLE. Other BALD EAGLES were spread about the county.

Single COMMON LOONS were spotted at Arnold Brook Lake and Long Lake in Sinclair.

ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS are arriving, with a dark phase hunting near the
Christina Reservoir and two light phased birds at a field in St. Agatha. A
late NORTHERN HARRIER was hunting the same field as the ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK
near Christina Reservoir.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK was soaring off the Coulombe Road in T16R4 in the company
of 30+ WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS. A small flock of AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS and
3 RUFFED GROUSE were also seen.

Notable finds in Stockholm included a female THREE-TOED WOODPECKER and a
juvenile NORTHERN SHRIKE. Also seen were GRAY JAYS and several BOREAL
CHICKADEES. Hundreds of finches were seen in a woodlot including 50+
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, PINE SISKINS, and PURPLE FINCHES.

SNOW BUNTINGS have appeared in numbers with the new snow. Several flocks of
50-100 buntings were seen in Castle Hill, Woodland, Washburn and Mapleton.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW lingers at a Caribou feeder while EVENING GROSBEAKS
were at a feeder in Mt. Chase.
