Welcome to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island's bird alert for November 30,
2006. This report covers the period from November 25th to November 30th
and will be updated again on December 7th.

A pelagic trip on the 25th out to Mud Hole and Cox's Ledge returned the
following results: 1 POMARINE JAEGER, 14 NORTHERN FULMAR, 4 GREATER SHEARWATER,
20 BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE and 100 NORTHERN GANNET. On the 27th, a birder on
a lobster boat saw a MANX SHEARWATER and an ICELAND GULL.

On the 25th at Sachuest Point in Middletown, 1 RED-NECKED GREBE, 21 PURPLE
SANDPIPER, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 1 EASTERN TOWHEE, and 1 WHITE-CROWNED
SPARROW. A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen in the area on the 27th.

At Succotash Marsh in Jerusalem, 1 AMERICAN BITTERN was observed on the
25th. In the marsh along Atlantic Avenue in Westerly, 2 AMERICAN BITTERN were
reported, also on the 25th.

A GREAT EGRET was seen at Marsh Meadows in Jamestown on the 30th, and a
RED-NECKED GREBE was seen at Beavertail on the 28th.

At Avondale Farm Preserve in Westerly, 2 WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, including
one GAMBEL'S WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT, 1 EASTERN
MEADOWLARK, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL and 6 EASTERN BLUEBIRD.

On the 27th, behind the South Kingstown YMCA, 1 BROWN THRASHER, 1 WINTER
WREN, 1 FOX SPARROW, and 3 EASTERN TOWHEE.

At Watchemocket Cove in East Providence on the 30th, 1 BLACK-HEADED GULL was
seen, and at Bullock's Cove, 1 EURASIAN WIGEON was spotted that day.

On the 30th at Nockum Hill in Barrington, 75 AMERICAN PIPIT were seen along
with 6 FOX SPARROW.

Twelve NORTHERN SHOVELER and 8 REDHEAD were reported on the 30th along with
large numbers of AMERICAN COOT, RUDDY DUCK and RING-NECKED DUCK at Trustom
Pond in South Kingstown.

Finally a LARK SPARROW was found on private property in Portsmouth, near
Black Point on the 25th. This bird was not relocated. In the same area a
YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was reported on the 28th.

The dates for Christmas Bird Counts are: December 16, Newport/Westport,
December 17, Napatree Point/Westerly, December 23, South County.
