Thrasher, 54 Dark-eyed Juncos (DY). On 12/1 at Riverview Park, 1 AMERICAN
TREE SPARROW (DY).
On 12/3 at the Point in Pittsburgh, 3 BUFFLEHEADS (DY).
At Woods Run on 12/3, 1 Hooded Merganser (DY).
On 12/4 and 12/5 in East Liberty, 1 first-year Common Yellowthroat, 1 Brown
Thrasher (DY).
Along Moody Road in Clinton on 12/7, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK (MV).
At Dashields Dam on 12/7, hundreds of Ring-billed Gulls, 2 Pied-billed
Grebes, 33 TUNDRA SWANS flying south, 22 SCAUP Sp. flying upriver, 1
AMERICAN BLACK DUCK (MV).
On 12/8 in Blawnox, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK (DY).
ARMSTRONG COUNTY:
On 12/10 there were 3 CACKLING GEESE reported at Keystone Reservoir on Route
210 near the town of Elderton (reported to MH by Lee Carnahan).
BEAVER COUNTY:
On 12/6 in Hanover Township, 1 white-phase SNOW GOOSE was seen feeding with
Canada Geese along Route 151 south of Ambridge Reservoir (GM).
At Ambridge Reservoir on 12/7, 5 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 6 Ring-billed Gulls (MV).
In New Brighton on 12/7, 12 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 3 American Coots (MV).
On 12/10 at State Gamelands #285, sightings included 1 Gray Catbird (GM).
On 12/10 along Beaver River, 1,285 Ring-billed Gulls, 4-5 Herring Gulls, 1
BONAPARTE'S GULL, 2 BALD EAGLES, 2 Wood Ducks, 4-5 Hooded Mergansers, 3
American Coots, AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 5 Pied-billed Grebes (GM).
BUTLER COUNTY:
At Moraine State Park on 12/3, sightings included 2 flocks of TUNDRA SWANS
flying south, totaling ~60 birds; 1 REDHEAD, small flock of LESSER SCAUP,
RUDDY DUCKS, 1 female BUFFLEHEAD with the RUDDY DUCKS and 18 more
BUFFLEHEADS along Sunken Garden Trail, 1 Common Loon, American Coots,
Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull (KSJ). On 12/5, a RED-NECKED GREBE was still
present on the south shore, and 123 TUNDRA SWANS in four flocks were
counted; also an estimated 1,000 gulls (reported to MV by Debbie Darney). On
12/6, sightings included 1 RED-NECKED GREBE, 61 TUNDRA SWANS, 3 AMERICAN
BLACK DUCKS, 1 REDHEAD, BUFFLEHEAD, RUDDY DUCK, American Coot, 9 LESSER
SCAUP, 7 GADWALL, 1 AMERICAN WIGEON, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 17 Hooded
Mergansers (DY). On 12/9, sightings included American Coots, RUDDY DUCKS,
BUFFLEHEADS, Ring-billed Gull, 1 BALD EAGLE (SG). Other sightings on 12/9
were 100 TUNDRA SWANS, 1 hen BLACK SCOTER, 2 GREATER SCAUP, 5 LESSER SCAUP,
COMMON GOLDENEYE, 2 REDHEADS, 11 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, AMERICAN WIGEON, 4
GADWALL, 21 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, Pied-billed Grebes (MV).
On 12/9 at the pond across from Eppinger's on Route 19, 168 RING-NECKED
DUCKS (MV).
At Hereford Manor on 12/9, 1 Common Loon, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 4 Pied-billed
Grebes (MV).
On 12/10 in Squaw Valley Woodlands, Allegheny Township, 1 presumably Eastern
Meadowlark (DW).
CLARION COUNTY:
Near Sligo through 12/8, 1 BALD EAGLE (CW).
CRAWFORD COUNTY:
On 12/10 in the Pymatuning area, 20 BALD EAGLES, 54 TUNDRA SWANS, 2 Wood
Ducks, 36 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 13 REDHEADS, 2 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 5
BUFFLEHEADS, 17 COMMON GOLDENEYES, 22 Hooded Mergansers, 47 RUDDY DUCKS, 1
Common Loon, Pied-billed Grebes, 1 HORNED GREBE, 4 Double-crested
Cormorants, 1 NORTHERN HARRIER, 2 light-phase ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS, 27
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 400 Ring-billed Gulls, 16 Herring Gulls, 1 SWAMP SPARROW
(DY).
ERIE COUNTY:
On 12/4 at Sunset Point, Presque Isle State Park this week, sightings
included TUNDRA SWANS, AMERICAN WIGEON, CANVASBACKS, SURF SCOTERS,
SURF/BLACK SCOTERS, BUFFLEHEADS, COMMON GOLDENEYES, RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS,
Common Loons, REDHEADS, GREATER SCAUP, LESSER SCAUP, LONG-TAILED DUCKS,
unidentified Loon, Hooded Mergansers, COMMON MERGANSERS, HORNED GREBES,
WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS (with a high count of 41 on 12/10), GADWALL, AMERICAN
BLACK DUCKS, RING-NECKED DUCK; 1 ICELAND GULL and 1 LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
feeding over the bay between Dobbins Landing and Port Access Road on 12/9; 1
RED-THROATED LOON (12/10), 1 RED-NECKED GREBE (12/10) (JM).
LAWRENCE COUNTY:
On 12/10 at the Three Rivers gravel pond, 1 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 1 NORTHERN
PINTAIL, 1 Hooded Merganser, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK, 1 LESSER SCAUP, 1 AMERICAN
BLACK DUCK (MV). On 12/11 a BLUE-WINGED TEAL was still present along with 1
NORTHERN PINTAIL, 1 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 1 RUDDY DUCK (MV).
On 12/6 at the Volant Strips, 3 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DY).
WASHINGTON COUNTY:
A late report: from a property in rural Coal Center, several female
Red-winged Blackbirds were present until approximately 11/26 (JT).
In Coal Center on the Monongahela River on 12/5 and 12/7, 1 Pied-billed
Grebe (AT).
Through 12/9 in McDonald, an adult female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD remains present
(reported to GM).
