Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was recorded on
Monday, November 27, at 10:40 a.m. To report a bird sighting, leave a message after

Another BARN OWL has been seen in southern Alberta. Kathy Molyneaux observed a BARN
OWL on Saturday, November 18, around her home in Granum, Alberta. Kathy lives at
224 Grey St in Granum and hasn't seen the bird since then. On November 8, Don and
Joyce Moore had found a dead BARN OWL at their farm, halfway between High River and
Longview.

There has been another report of a RED-TAILED HAWK in the Calgary area. On Sunday,
November 26, Richard Rappelle observed a RED-TAILED HAWK off Hwy 2A where it enters
High River on the north side. Dave Nadeau, Terry Thormin and Pat Marklevitz had
seen a RED-TAILED HAWK near the Glenmore Trail Bridge in Calgary on Monday, November
20.

A pair of HARRIS'S SPARROWS have been reported in Nanton, Alberta. Greg Wagner
reported the birds were off the back lane, behind the school parking lot near 24 St
& 24 Ave, on Thursday, November 23 and also saw a CEDAR WAXWING off 17 St there near
26 Ave. Other late migrants reported were 2 WILSON'S SNIPE and a GREEN-WINGED TEAL
seen Saturday, November 25, by Rob Worona at Carburn Park in Calgary and a RUSTY
BLACKBIRD seen Friday, November 24, by Mike Mulligan, Jerry Pilny and Phil Cram
south of the Eric Harvie Bridge in Carburn Park. Kathy Molyneaux had a COMMON
GRACKLE around her home at 224 Grey St in Granum from November 18 - 23.

Greg Wagner reported a dark grey GYRFALCON was at 498 Ave, 3 kms north of Frank
Lake, east of High River on Thursday, November 23. David Brown observed a SNOWY OWL
on November 23 on 68 St at 90 Ave NE in Calgary, while Carole Shields reported one
on Hwy 1 just west of Hwy 9 on November 20 - 21. Jerry Pilny and Alan Fishkin
reported NORTHERN GOSHAWKS in Bragg Creek and near Quirk Creek on November 26 and
the same day saw 3 NORTHERN SHRIKES between Bragg Creek and Calgary. Richard
Rappelle reported a NORTHERN SHRIKE near his home in NE High River on Sunday,
November 26.

Fri Dec 1, 12 noon: Begin Calgary Winter Bird Count, (Dec 1-Feb 28). Meet Stanley
Park on 42 Av SW, just W of Macleod Tr. Leader, Victor Basok, 235-2050.

Fri Dec 1, 7pm: Star Night. Meet parking lot, Shouldice Arena, 1515 Home Rd NW to
head into dark sky country. Bring warm clothing and hot drink. Call Leader, John
McFaul, 289-9517, between 5:30-6pm to confirm trip is on.

Sat Dec 2, 8:30am: Calgary Winter Bird Count. Today visit Inglewood, probably
Carburn and Burnsmead. Bring lunch. Meet Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, E end of 9 Av SE

Sat Dec 2, 1pm: Gyrfalcon Search east of Calgary. Full gas tank. Meet Glenmore Inn,
2720 Glenmore Tr (near Ogden Rd). Limited party size: call to register. Leader,

Sun Dec 3, 9am: Birding Carburn Park. S from Glenmore Tr at 18 St SE to second
