San Mateo Co.
-------------
On Nov 24-25, the YELLOW-BILLED LOON continues upstream from the mouth
of Pescadero Creek along Hwy 1. It was seen at various points
upstream and even 1/2 mile from the bridge. Take the trail along the
creek until you reach some eucalyptus trees, where there is an area
which opens up. The bird was here for awhile.
(Judi Cooper, Bingham Gibbs, Len Blumin, Mark Eaton)
On Nov 24, the PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER was seen by Maverick at
Pillar Point. (Mark Eaton)
On Nov 24, a sea watch from Pigeon Pint had a high of 37,000 loons,
mainly Red-Throated and Pacific Loons. (6) POMARINE JAEGERS were
also reported. At the Weed Farm, a PALM WARBLER, VESPER SPARROW,
SAGE SPARROW and (3) WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS were seen.
The Weed Farm is located on the west side of Highway 1 and about
a half mile north of the turnoff to the Ano Nuevo State Reserve.
Parked along Highway 1 across from the Christmas tree farm and
take the state park road west paralleling the trees on the south side
of the road. Access into the field will be about a quarter of a mile
west of Highway 1. There will a dirt road entering from the south
side of the state park road at a dead tree. Follow the dirt road to where
it crosses a drainage ditch into the another field, where you will find
sparrows delight.(Ron Thorn)
