WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS

This is the Western Voice of Audubon for Monday, December 11, 2006

A male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER has been coming to a feeder in Granby most
of this week.

A male PAINTED BUNTING was coming to a feeder in Huntington, but it has not
been seen in over a week.

Found on the power canal in Turners Falls were 12 COMMON GOLDENEYES, a female
BARROW’S GOLDENEYE, and a SNOW GOOSE, while seen on the Connecticut River at
Barton Cove were 9 RING-NECKED DUCKS, a GREATER SCAUP, 2 LESSER SCAUP, and 23
HOODED MERGANSERS.

A SNOW GOOSE was also at the campus pond at the University of Massachusetts
in Amherst along with a GREAT BLUE HERON and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

Seen in Longmeadow were a GREAT BLUE HERON, a CAROLINA WREN, and 4 EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS.

Three SNOW GEESE were on Mill Pond in Egremont and a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW was
coming to a feeder in Great Barrington.

Found on Pontoosuc Lake in Pittsfield were 4 NORTHERN PINTAILS, 300 HOODED
MERGANSERS, and 10 COMMON MERGANSERS.

Seen at Quabbin Park were 2 COMMON MERGANSERS, a COMMON GOLDENEYE, 5 COMMON
LOONS, 5 HORNED GREBES, a BELTED KINGFISHER, 7 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 9
GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS, and a COMMON GRACKLE.

Two FIELD SPARROWS and 300 COMMON GRACKLES were coming to a yard in Monterey,
5 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were reported in Lenox, and 25 HOODED MERGANSERS were on
Richmond Pond.

Seen in Belchertown were a PILEATED WOODPECKER, 2 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, a BROWN
CREEPER, a GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, and 4 FOX SPARROWS.

Seen in Southwick were 10 AMERICAN COOTS, a BELTED KINGFISHER, 6 EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS, a WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW, and 65 BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and 10 RED-TAILED HAWKS were counted at the hawkwatch in
Granville and tallied in Barre Falls were a NORTHERN HARRIER and 2 BALD EAGLES.

A visit to Hawley produced a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL, a
PILEATED WOODPECKER, 6 HORNED LARKS, 9 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, and 2 BROWN
CREEPERS.
