EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -
This is the Voice of Audubon for Monday, December 11.
An ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER found along Leonard Street in the
Annisquam section of Gloucester on Saturday was still present there
at
least as recently as yesterday, and the BELL'S VIREO in the Woods
Hole
section of Falmouth was also still present yesterday in the thickets
near the
intersection of Oyster Pond Road and Ring Road.
Other birds noted in the Falmouth area included 2 VIRGINIA RAILS, 1
EASTERN PHOEBE, 3 WINTER WRENS, 1 MARSH WREN, 6 RUBY-
CROWNED KINGLETS, 4 YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS, and 1 FOX
SPARROW.
Other lingering rarities reported over the weekend included the LARK
SPARROW along Ward Swift Road in Bourne and the RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRD at the residence at 658 Main Street in the Cotuit section
of Barnstable.
An AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was noted in flight high over Plum
Island yesterday, and other birds seen on the island included a SNOW
GOOSE,
an AMERICAN BITTERN, 8 NORTHERN HARRIERS, 1 NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, 1 MERLIN, 2 or 3 SHORT-EARED
OWLS, 75 HORNED LARKS, and a BROWN THRASHER.
Miscellaneous reports from the weekend included a late SNOWY EGRET
and
an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER in Gloucester, a YELLOW-BREASTED
CHAT at Halibut Point in Rockport, 12 LESSER SCAUP, 22 HOODED
MERGANSERS, and 175 COMMON MERGANSERS at Suntog Reservoir in
Lynnfield, 2 NORTHERN SHOVELERS and 189 AMERICAN COOTS at
the Great Meadows Refuge in Concord, a PEREGRINE FALCON and 12
EASTERN MEADOWLARKS at the Daniel Webster Sanctuary in Marshfield,
and a THICK-BILLED MURRE in Provincetown.
