This is the Victoria Natural History Society's Rare Bird Alert for
December 15, 2006, 5pm update. For current information, please call

Due to the inclement weather there have been very few reports to the
bird alert tape, hopefully tomorrows Victoria Christmas Bird Count will
change all that and good luck to the participants, Rick Shortinghuis
will be taking over the bird alert after tonight

At Elk Lake on Thursday the 14th there were 60 Canvasback, 1 Redhead and
1Ruddy Duck
Tuesday December 12th
A Gyrfalcon was seen near the corner of Yates and Douglas in downtown
Victoria
Saturday December 9
A Gyrfalcon was seen at Swan Lake this afternoon stopping briefly in a
tree before flying northward towards Blenkinsop Lake area, and a late
report of a possible Gyr hunting at Panama Flats on Friday, this bird
may be in the Victoria area still so keep looking
A female Yellow-headed Blackbird (with the large flock of mixed blackbirds)
and a Snow Goose were along Martindale Rd
Two Turkey Vultures were at the corner of Metchosin and Latoria Rd in
Metchosin
No reports for Thursday and Friday
Wednesday December 6
A Gray-crowned Rosy-Finch has been frequenting a feeder at the KOA
campground on the Malahat for a few days now, if you intend on going to
see this bird please knock on the door of the house of the owner, his
name is John, he will show you where the bird has been.

Sky Larks and Western Meadowlark at the Vantreight buld field in
Central Saanich
1 Rock Wren at Island View Beach
1 Blue Jay coming to feeders at the corner of West Saanich and Tapping Rd
2 American Bittern at Swan Lake
1 Townsend's Warbler coming to a suet feeder at 9345 Ardmore Drv.
