Of Special Note
The ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER continued to be seen at the Saco Yacht Club
through December 11.
A WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was in North Fryeburg.
A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER was foraging along the west bank of the Kennebec
River in Waterville.
A WESTERN TANAGER was seen and photographed around Thanksgiving in Rockport.
Another WESTERN TANAGER was seen in Damariscotta on December 11.
York County
A GREAT BLUE HERON sat on the old trolley trestle across from Cape Neddick
Harbor.
Six SNOW GEESE were in the field near the Laudholm Farm in Wells. A
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was elsewhere in Wells.
An immature female BALTIMORE ORIOLE was at the public parking lot at
Biddeford Pool.
The ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER continued to be seen at the Saco Yacht Club, on
Front Street in Saco through December 11. A RED-THROATED LOON was at the
Saco Yacht Club, and an EASTERN BLUEBIRD was in the same vicinity. A south
bound TURKEY VULTURE was over the Shaw's in downtown Saco on December 9.
Scarborough Marsh Area
A BLACK GUILLEMOT was at Pine Point.
A GREAT BLUE HERON and a BELTED KINGFISHER were seen in Scarborough Marsh.
An adult male CANVASBACK DUCK, AMERICAN WIGEON, and a late GREEN-WINGED TEAL
were seen with several other species on Grondin Pond in Scarborough. A flock
of 20 SNOW GEESE were seen flying in the area while two SNOW GEESE, one a
full plumage blue phase, were on the pond with a small group of CANADA GEESE.
Seven EASTERN BLUEBIRDS are visiting feeders on Clearwater Drive, while
another 6 are at feeders on Old Neck Road where a late BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD
was seen briefly.
A COMMON REDPOLL visited another feeder in Scarborough.
Two AMERICAN WIGEONS were on Prout’s Pond.
Greater Portland and Western Maine
A YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT was by Portland's Eastern Prom Trail in the thick
cover below the hill leading up to sewage treatment plant on December 9. Two
PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen at the corner of Deering and Stevens Avenue in
Portland.
Two RED-THROATED LOONS were seen off Macworth Island in Falmouth.
A small flock of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS was heard at Florida Lake Park in
Freeport on December 7.
The WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE seen on Kimball Pond in Fryeburg was feeding with a
flock of Canada Geese in a corn field in North Fryeburg bounded by McNiel
Road on the West and Old River Road on the South. Also seen were two
NORTHERN HARRIERS, a COOPERS HAWK, a PEREGRINE FALCON, and a BALD EAGLE.
Two BALD EAGLES were in Bridgton.
Midcoast
A dark morph ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was hunting over the marsh opposite the
entrance to Popham Beach in Phippsburg. Fifteen NORTHERN GANNETS, 40
RAZORBILLS, 60+ BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKES, and 20 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were seen
at Small Point in Phippsburg on December 10, while a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was in
Georgetown.
Eight CEDAR WAXWINGS were in Bath.
A WESTERN TANAGER was seen and photographed around Thanksgiving in Rockport.
Another WESTERN TANAGER was seen on Belvedere Road in Damariscotta on
December 11. The bird was seen near the headquarters of the Damariscotta
River Association, feeding on the ground and in adjacent spruces.
A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW is visiting a feeder on North Haven.
Thirty AMERICAN COOTS were by the beach at Chickawaukee Lake, off Route 17,
north of Rockland.
Eastern Maine
A 1st year ICELAND GULL and a RED-THROATED LOON were seen in Prospect Harbor.
Three-hundred plus RED-NECKED GREBES were on the National Park Loop Road of
Acadia National Park, just south of One Squeak Harbor on Schoodic Peninsula
with many more scattered here and there. An immature RAZORBILL was off the
rocks at the point.
A SNOWY OWL was reported on the Pine Hearth Road in Town Hill on December 14.
Six SNOW BUNTINGS were in Jonesboro.
Central Maine
A TURKEY VULTURE was in Gardiner on December 10, working its way south-west.
A drake BARROW’S GOLDENEYE and 6 COMMON MERGANSERS were in the Sebasticook
River below the bridge on Route 201 in Waterville. A YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER
was foraging along the west bank of the Kennebec River in Waterville.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE was in Unity.
Four PINE SISKINS were in Dixmont.
A juvenile NORTHERN SHRIKE and a CAROLINA WREN were at feeders in Winterport.
Northern Maine
No reports from this region.
