Six GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE continued at the Angeles National Golf Club
along Tujunga Wash through December 10. Exit the 210 Freeway at Wheatland
and take Foothill east to the golf course and wash. The birds can usually
be observed from the road and are often foraging on the fairway.

Four COMMON GOLDENEYE were reported from Peck Water Conservation Park in
Arcadia/Monrovia. Take the Myrtle exit south from the 210 Freeway and look
for the park entrance on your right south of Live Oak. Two more COMMON
GOLDNEYE were along the LA River on December 2. These birds were just north
of Fletcher Drive.

The LONG-TAILED DUCK in the scoter flock off Dockwelier State Beach in El
Segundo was seen again on December 12. View from the Hyperion Overlook
parking area or near Lifeguard Platform #58 on the beach.

The ROCK SANDPIPER at the Ballona Creek Mouth in Playa del Rey was reported
through December 12. From the west end of the 90 Freeway, take Culver west
to Pacific. Go right onto Pacific to the end and park. From here you can
walk out on the middle and south jetties to look for the bird. It can be
difficult to spot since it often forages near the water and between the
rocks.

A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale on
December 13. The Yellow-bellied was in the Eventide section downhill from
the statue of David. A Red-naped Sapsucker was in this area as well. The
cemetery entrance is on Glendale Avenue.

A few MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS turned up this past week with two birds present at
the Sylmar Independent Baseball League Fields in lower Pacoima Canyon, just
east of El Cariso Park and Golf Course. Exit the 210 Freeway at Maclay and
go east to the fields.

Three more MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were at at Hansen Dam at the soccer fields
just north of the lake and another was at Vina Vieja Park in Pasadena. Also
at Vina Vieja Park was a female WILLAIMSON'S SAPSUCKER moving between the
wash and a row of Canary Island Pines. This park is just west of Sierra
Madre Blvd. on Orange Grove.

The BROWN THRASHER at Harbor Regional Park in Wilmington continues and was
last reported on December 9. Starting from the PCH (north) side of the park
go to the spot directly across the street from an Aaron's store and look for
the cut logs on the lawn. The thrasher has been seen close to the edge of
the willow forest just west of here, but has been difficult to find. Be
aware that there is a homeless camp just a bit further into the willows
here.

A VIRGINIA'S WARBLER was at Rose Hills in Whittier on December 10. Enter at
Gate 10 and follow the road to the right and past the pond on your left.
The bird was seen near here close to the RR tracks between two concrete
swales that channel water runoff from the cemetery.

A NORTHERN PARULA was at Charles Wilson Park in Torrance on December 7.
Look for it in the alders near the pond. The park is at the corner of
Crenshaw and Jefferson.

The PAINTED REDSTART continues at Bonelli Park in San Dimas near Restroom
#8.

At the South Coast Botanic Garden in Palos Verdes Estates, a female type
ORCHARD ORIOLE was just inside the entrance. Also seen at the gardens were
three VARIED THRUSHES and a SUMMER TANAGER.

Two VESPER SPARROWS and a continuing VERMILION FLYCATCHER were in South El
Monte at the west end of Rush Street on December 10. Look for them between
the north and south soccer fields and in the weedy field immediately SW of
there.

A WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was behind the Nature Center at Eaton Canyon in
Pasadena on December 11.

This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
