This is New Hampshire Audubon's Rare Bird Alert for Friday, December 15th,
2006.
An EARED GREBE was discovered off of Seal Rocks on November 30th and has
regularly been seen in that area since then. It was last reported on
December 10th. Seal Rocks is located just north of Wallis Sands, in Rye.
An immature male KING EIDER and a female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE were seen at
Bicentennial Park in Hampton on December 10th.
4 BLACK GUILLEMONTS were seen on the ocean from Pulpit Rocks in Rye on
December 10th, and a RAZORBILL and 2 BLACK GUILLEMOTS were seen from Odiorne
Point State Park in Rye on December 8th.
There was an unconfirmed sighting of a SNOWY OWL in a wetland along
Brownfield Road in Eaton on December 12th.
5 RED CROSSBILLS were reported near Chase Pond in Albany on December 12th.
More than 25 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS, and several PINE SISKINS and PURPLE
FINCHES were seen in the forest on the west side of Trudeau Road in
Bethlehem on December 12th.
10 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER were seen at Cherry
Pond in Jefferson on December 10th.
4 LAPLAND LONGSPURS, 16 HORNED LARKS, and 2 SNOW BUNTINGS were seen at
Hampton Beach State Park on December 9th. PURPLE SANPIPERS, SANDERLINGS and
DUNLIN continue to be reported during the past week from Bicentennial Park
in Hampton, and on the ocean-side near the entrance to Hampton Harbor.
About 10 TURKEY VULTURES were seen at a roost in downtown Newmarket on
December 13th.
A LESSER SCAUP, a RING-NECKED DUCK, a RUDDY DUCK, and 2 AMERICAN COOT were
seen at the Exeter Waste Water Treatment Plant on December 10th.
8 AMERICAN COOTS were seen on Eel Pond in Rye on December 9th.
50 COMMON MERGANSERS, 7 HOODED MERGANSERS, and a pair of GREATER SCAUP were
reported from above the Wilder Dam on the Connecticut River in Lebanon on
December 10th.
42 HOODED MERGANSERS, 34 COMMON MERGANSERS, 4 GREATER SCAUP, 18 COMMON
GOLDENEYE, and 2 COMMON LOONS were seen on Spofford Lake in Chesterfield,
and 16 HOODED MERGANSERS and 12 COMMON MERGANSERS
were seen on Swanzey Lake in Swanzey, all on December 14th.
3 NORTHERN HARRIERS were reported from the Hampton Marshes, and an AMERICAN
KESTREL was seen on Island Path in Hampton, all on December 9th.
A NORTHERN HARRIER and a BALD EAGLE were seen on Powdermill Pond in Hancock
on December 11th.
PEREGRINE FALCONS were reported from Dover, Plymouth, Manchester, and
Concord during the past week.
A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was reported from Page Hill Road in Goffstown on
December 14th. A RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER was also seen at Sandy Point in
Stratham, and one was seen in downtown Newmarket, both on December 10th.
A HERMIT THRUSH was seen on Oak Street, and a FIELD SPARROW was seen next to
a parking lot on Charter Street, both in Exeter on December 12th. A HERMIT
THRUSH was also reported from North Hampton on December 14th.
A CHIPPING SPARROW was seen coming to a bird feeder in Rumney on December
11th.
EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were reported from several locations during the past week.
19 GREAT CORMORANTS were seen at Concord Point in Rye on December 9th.
