This is Scott Barnes with the Voice of New Jersey Audubon Society for
Thursday December 28, 2006 with reports of BARNACLE GOOSE, BARROW'S
GOLDENEYE, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, seasonal and local reports of
interest and announcements.

A BARNACLE GOOSE discovered on private property during the Assunpink
CBC was still present Dec 23. If interested in seeing this bird, a
special trip has been organized for Jan 1. Contact Fred at
avtrader@comcast.net for details.

The female BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was still present this week at Sandy
Hook. Look for the bird with a small COMMON GOLDENEYE flock in the
bay just south of SHBO near the Nike Missile. Also present at the
hook this week were GREAT EGRET, HORNED LARK, and SNOW BUNTING. A
free, detailed birding map of Sandy Hook is available at SHBO; check
the sightings log for daily reports.

Barnegat Light State Park Dec 23 hosted a female KING EIDER, 150
COMMON EIDERS, and HARLEQUIN DUCKS.

The Moorestown CBC Dec 23 had about 100 species including LESSER
BLACK-BACKED GULL, 5 NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS (only the 2nd NJ
CBC record), and DICKCISSEL, all at Palmyra Cove Nature Park.

Two RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS continue in Bergen County through Dec 22.
An adult present since early November remains at the Ridgewood duck
pond on the north side of East Ridgewood Ave between Paramus Rd and
Pershing Ave. Park in the lot between Areas B & C; the bird is active
in the area between the restrooms and the pavilion. A second RED-
HEADED WOODPECKER was noted at Saddle River County Park, Dunkerhook
section at mile marker 1.8 of the Saddle River Trail.

The GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen again Dec 25 in Mahwah. Look
for the bird from the end of Halifax Ave off Rte 202 in the fields
around Ramapo College or the large pool in the river near Henry Lake.
Also in Mahwah this week was a COMMON RAVEN over Rte 17.

Another COMMON RAVEN was over Rte 9W in Englewood Cliffs Dec 25.
.
A female LONG-TAILED DUCK and RED-BREASTED MERGANSER were noted on
Culver's Lake Dec 23.
