San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary: Adult male VERMILION FLYCATCHER last
reported on 12/19, the juvenile on 12/20. The RED-THROATED PIPIT last
reported on 12/20. There was a female PHAINOPEPLA at the Sanctuary on the

the fence (last seen on Tuesday).
Bolsa Chica Preserve: two REDDISH EGRETS last Friday.
Forbes Road below Crown Valley Parkway: On Tuesday, 7 HOODED MERGANSERS were
observed. These are very skittish so be careful with your movements.
Gull flock north of Lincoln: Saturday at least 2 first year THAYER'S GULLs
in the group.
HOODED WARBLER last reported at Aurora Park in Mission Viejo on Tuesday.
One group birding there last ........ did not have the bird but did have a
Clay-colored Sparrow there.
LEWIS WOODPECKERs, two, last Tuesday at the end of Black Star Canyon Road.
BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD female refound last Friday at the Mission Viejo
Golf Course location.
Doheny State Beach: another KUMLIEN'S GULL reported at the lagoon at Doheny
last Tuesday.
Laguna Niguel Regional Park: PLUMBEOUS VIREO near the entrance (make 1st
left) in Alders before crossing the Creek.
BROAD-BILLED HUMMINGBIRD directions. Northeast edge of Mission Viejo Golf
Course. Take Oso Parkway east off I-5, turn left (north) on Marguerite
Parkway, then a quick left on Via Angelina, where you park at the end of the
street. The bird frequents the red-flowering eucs at the street-end and
likes to roost in the Brazilian pepper at the end of the chain-link fence
along the creek. The bird is more often heard than seen, so for the
unfamiliar, check all 'Ruby-crowned Kinglet' calls.
