An immature BLUE GROSBEAK, 3 LARK SPARROWS, and a YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON
were seen on Monhegan Island this week.

York County

On Appledore Island there were MANX, SOOTY, and GREATER SHEARWATERS, and a
PARASITIC JAEGER.

At Drakes Island in Wells there were SEMIPALMATED PLOVER and SANDPIPERS,
and BONAPATE'S GULLS.

There were 2 CAROLINA WRENS at Kennebunk Beach.

Scarborough Marsh Area

There were 250-300 SANDERLINGS at Higgins Beach on September 10.

On Pine Point Beach there were 3 AMERICAN OYSTERCATCHERS, WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPERS, SANDERLINGS, LEAST and SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

On Stratton Island on September 10, 50 MANX, 50 SOOTY, and GREATER
SHEARWATERS were seen off of Saco Bay plus PARASITIC JAEGERS were chasing
terns. On September 12 there were 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS.

AMERICAN PIPITS were seen on Richmond Island on September 11.

Greater Portland and Western Maine

At Evergreen Cemetery in Portland there were PURPLE FINCHES, and a LEAST
FLYCATCHER.

Birds at Sandy Point Beach on Cousins Island in Yarmouth this past week
included: Black-throated Green, American Redstart, Canada, Northern Parula,
Nashville, Blackpoll, Black-and-white, Black-throated Blue, Blackburnian,
Common Yellowthroat, Yellow, Northern Waterthrush, Wilson's, Chestnut-sided,
and Magnolia Warblers. A BAY-BREASTED WARBLER was seen on the September 10.
Also seen were many RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, RED-EYED VIREOS, CEDAR
WAXWINGS, LAUGHING GULLS, BONAPARTE'S GULLS, PURPLE FINCH, ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK, 1 AMERICAN KESTREL, 3 MERLIN, 2 BALD EAGLES, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE,
EASTERN PHOEBE, EASTERN KINGBIRD, and LEAST FLYCATCHER and YELLOW-BELLIED
FLYCATCHERS.

At Hedgehog Mountain Park in Freeport there were of 13 species of warblers
and two AMERICAN PIPITS also flew overhead at dawn.

A WOOD DUCK and SOLITARY SANDPIPER were seen in Gray.

Midcoast

On Monhegan an immature BLUE GROSBEAK was seen by the Trailing Yew feeders.
A Green-winged Teal was by the dock and 3 Lark Sparrows were in the
cemetery. An American Bittern was seen flying over the meadow. Also seen on
the island were BALTIMORE ORIOLE, PURPLE FINCH, 2 INDIGO BUNTINGS,
CHIPPING, SWAMP, SONG, SAVANNAH, and CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, RUSTY BLACKBIRD,
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER,
VEERY, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, CEDAR WAXWINGS, BOBOLINKS, EASTERN KINGBIRD,
COMMON NIGHTHAWK, NORTHERN HARRIER, AMERICAN KESTREL, MERLIN, and PEREGRINE
FALCON. WARBLERS seen on the island were Prairie, Blackpoll, YELLOW, PINE,
NORTHERN PARULA, MAGNOLIA, BLACK and WHITE, AMERICAN REDSTART, NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH, BLACK-THROATED GREEN, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, PALM, YELLOW-RUMPED,
NASHVILLE, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT and WILSON'S. Also seen were: LEAST, SPOTTED
and SOLITARY SANDPIPERS, BELTED KINGFISHERS and YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON.
On the boat crossings to the island there were: 2+ SOOTY SHEARWATERS, and
10+ GREATER SHEARWATERS.

Highlights of the Maine Audubon Bald Eagles of Merrymeeting Trip on
September 10 include: 19 adult and 9 immature BALD EAGLES, 2 COMMON LOONS, 3
NORTHERN GANNETS, 1 immature LITTLE BLUE HERON, many BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 2
NORTHERN HARRIERS, 2 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 6 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 4 RED-TAILED
HAWK, AMERICAN KESTREL, and 2 MERLINS and 25 Black-Bellied Plovers.

Shorebirds seen at Popham Beach in Phippsburg on September 4 included: 1
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 80 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 800+ SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS,
3-4 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 40+LEAST SANDPIPERS, 1 RED
KNOT, and GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

Birds seen at Half-mile Beach, Reid State Park in Georgetown on September 10
included: 1 BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, juvenile amongst many SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS and SANDERLINGS and some SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS and LEAST SANDPIPERS.

A single AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was seen at Weskeag in South Thomaston on
September 12.

Central Maine

In Turner there were PRAIRIE WARBLER, AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER, and 2 BARN
SWALLOWS.

In Wilton there were 6 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 2 SHARP-SHINNED, 1 COOPER'S HAWK,
and a NORTHERN GOSHAWK.

A DICKCISSEL was heard in Gardiner.

On September 11 there were seven AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS and 11 AMERICAN
PIPITS in the recently-plowed fields across the road from and just south of
Goranson's Farm on Route 128 in Dresden. Two of the PLOVERS retained much of
their breeding plumage. Also present were 2 LEAST SANDPIPERS and 35 or so
KILLDEER. This area is now part of Green Point Wildlife Management Area. A
signed parking area is available just beyond where the listed birds were
seen. Five AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen on September 12 and again on
September 13.

One FIELD SPARROW was seen in Benton.

In Dixmont there were 6 EVENING GROSBEAKS, 1 NORTHERN GOSHAWK, 2 EASTERN
BLUEBIRDS, YELLOW-SHAFTED FLICKERS, and an EASTERN PHOEBE.

Eastern Maine

At Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge there were 2 AMERICAN WIGEONS, 1
NORTHERN PINTAIL, BLUE and GREEN-WINGED TEAL, RING-NECKED DUCK, AMERICAN
BITTERN, WOOD DUCK, BROAD-WINGED HAWK, BALD EAGLE, and GREAT BLUE HERON.

A mixed foraging flock of about 250 or more birds was seen on Telephone Road
in Indian Township on September 8. Ten species of neotropical migrants were
singing. The songsters included: AMERICAN REDSTART, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER,
NORTHERN PARULA, NASHVILLE, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, PINE WARBLER,
BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, YELLOW, and MAGNOLIA WARBLERS, and
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER. Highlights of birds seen but not singing were
MOURNING, YELLOW-RUMPED, BLACKBURNIAN, AND BAY-BREASTED WARBLERS, OVENBIRD,
BOREAL CHICKADEES, RED-EYED VIREOS, GRAY JAYS, and RUFFED GROUSE.

On a boat trip on Tomah Stream, there were: 2 AMERICAN BLACK DUCKS, 2
GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 5 WOOD DUCKS, 6 HOODED MERGANSERS, 6 RING-NECKED DUCKS, 2
GREAT BLUE HERONS, 4 BELTED KINGFISHERS, 5 COMMON LOONS, and 2 immature BALD
EAGLES.

Three juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were seen at the Lubec flats on West
Lubec Road on September 11.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was seen in T25 off a logging Road.

Northern Maine

On September 11 there was a RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD in Fort Kent.
