A male KING EIDER was seen in Perkins Cove in Ogunquit from the Sea Cliff
Resort on December 24.
DOVEKIES and RAZORBILLS continue to be seen at Dyer Point in Cape Elizabeth.
A BLACK-HEADED GULL was at the pond behind Fortunes Rocks beach in
Biddeford.
A BARROW’S GOLDENEYE arrived at Winslow Park in Freeport.
A TURKEY VULTURE was in Falmouth on December 24.
The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER continues in Waterville through December 25.
York County
A male KING EIDER was seen in Perkins Cove in Ogunquit from the Sea Cliff
Resort on December 24.
A GREAT BLUE HERON was at the Gut at Vine's Landing in Biddeford Pool. A
NORTHERN GANNETT was on the rocks at Fortunes Rocks on December 24. A BLACK-
HEADED GULL and BONAPARTE’S GULLS are being seen in the pond and on the
beach at Fortunes Rock.
A late BELTED KINGFISHER was seen on Kennebunk Pond in Lyman on December
22.
Scarborough Marsh Area
Two AMERICAN WIGEONS, 3 GADWALLS, 1 BELTED KINGFISHER, 1 COMMON MERGANSER,
and 15 HOODED MERGANSERS continue on Prout’s Pond in Scarborough.
The female CANVASBACK, 10 LESSER SCAUP, 2-3 GREATER SCAUP, 12 AMERICAN
COOTS, 1 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, 6 HOODED MERGANSERS, and 8 RUDDY DUCKS
continue on Grondin Pond.
A NORTHERN FLICKER was seen on Hackamatac Road in Scarborough.
A GREAT BLUE HERON was foraging in Scarborough Marsh.
A COOPER’S HAWK chased MOURNING DOVES at a feeder on Old Neck Road.
Four YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS were in the pines at the Scarborough Beach
State park, and a DOVEKIE, and 6 RED-THROATED LOONS were offshore.
Greater Portland and Western Maine
Four DOVEKIES, 8 PURPLE SANDPIPERS, 7 RAZORBILLS, and 11 HARLEQUIN DUCKS
were at Dyer Point on December 22. A THICK-BILLED MURRE was spotted on
December 23. On December 24, 1 DOVEKIE, 15 RAZORBILLS, 3 BLACK-LEGGED
KITTIWAKES, and several NORTHERN GANNETS were seen. On December 25 in Cape
Elizabeth, an adult female COOPER'S HAWK was watching some feeders on
Eastman Road in Cape Elizabeth. A DOVEKIE and 14 HARLEQUIN DUCKS were at
Two Lights State Park and at least 14 COMMON LOONS were in the water off
Kettle Cove and Crescent Beach.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER visited Evergreen Cemetery on December 20 and a
MERLIN on December 24.
A TURKEY VULTURE was flying over Hurricane Road in Falmouth near the power
line on December 24.
A CAROLINA WREN was perched atop a brush pile in Yarmouth on December 25.
One BARROW'S GOLDENEYE was at Freeport's Winslow Park.
A RED-TAILED HAWK was in Pownal.
Midcoast
A late WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was at a feeder in Georgetown on December 26.
The Rockland Breakwater had 1 HORNED GREBE, 1 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, several
BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 8 BLACK GUILLEMOTS, and 3 PURPLE SANDPIPERS.
A flock of at least 8 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS were foraging in the bushes on
Mount Battie Street in Camden.
A single PINE SISKIN came to a feeder with 80 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES in Blue
Hill.
Two BALD EAGLES, 2 TREE SPARROWS, 2 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS, 1 SONG
SPARROW, and several DARK-EYED JUNCOS were on Monhegan Island.
Central Maine
The YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER continues along south Water Street in
Waterville through December 25. A BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER was seen in
Waterville on December 21. A HARLEQUIN DUCK and 6 BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were
present along the Kennebec River at least through December 21.
The SNOWY OWL in Corinna was last reported on December 21.
A flock of 25 RED CROSSBILLS flew around the edges of a clear-cut on
December 24, about a mile northeast of where the County Road goes over
Birch Stream in Milford, in Penobscot County.
Northern Maine
PINE SISKINS and COMMON REDPOLLS were in Fort Kent.
RED-BREASTED, and WHITE-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, and 50 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES
were in Houlton.
Christmas Bird Counts
Join the more than 50,000 observers who participate each year in the
Audubon Christmas Bird Count, a census of early winter bird populations in
more than 1,500 locations from Canada to Latin America. For more than a
century the results of this count have been compiled to create the longest-
running database in ornithology. Birders of all abilities are welcome to
participate. There is a per-person charge of $5 for all counts, with
additional fees for boat trips. Please contact the count compiler for
