RARE BIRD ALERT for Washington state WHOOPER SWAN,
SLATY-BACKED GULL, BLACK-HEADED GULL, KING EIDER,
and EMPEROR GOOSE. Please call the Washington State BirdBox
at (206) 281-9172, or check the TWEETERS E-mail group for
updates on these birds.


Sightings for Wednesday, December 27th:

South of Snohomish, WA, a WHOOPER SWAN has been
present since Dec 25th. Also, an EMPEROR GOOSE continues
to be seen in this area.

At Colony Farm, a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was seen on the Port Coquitlam side.

In Vancouver, a SNOWY OWL was seen at St.George Street
and 10th Ave.

At Lighthouse Marine Park, Point Roberts, WA, 8 ANCIENT
MURRELETS and 4 MARBLED MURRELETS were seen.

At Beach Grove Lagoon in Delta, 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GEESE continue.


Sightings for Tuesday, December 26th:

In WA, the KING EIDER continues to be seen daily at the
Semiahmoo Resort near Blaine. Also in WA, the BLACK-HEADED
GULL was again present on Bainbridge Island, Puget Sound.

In Burnaby at Willingdon and Central Blvd east of Central Park,
2 GRAY-CROWNED ROSY FINCHES were sighted in the gravel
bed below the Skytrain.

In Delta, the 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES continue
at 3706 88th St. Nearby, a SNOWY OWL was seen along the
Boundary Bay shoreline at the foot of 72nd St.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, the NORTHERN GOSHAWK
continues and a possible ROSS'S GOOSE was present in the
SNOW GEESE flock.


Sightings for Monday, December 25th:

At the Cedar River mouth in Renton, King County, WA, an adult
SLATY-BACKED GULL was found.

In Stanley Park, Vancouver, the AMERICAN DIPPER continues
to be present on the west side of the moat around the Vancouver
Aquarium.


No reports for Sunday, December 24th


Sightings for Saturday, December 23rd:

At least 145 bird species were seen on the Ladner Christmas Bird
Count, which covers most of Delta plus Point Roberts, WA.
Some highlights include:

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary, 4 AMERICAN BITTERNS, 5 BLACK-
CROWNED NIGHT-HERONS, 6 SANDHILL CRANES, 2 NORTHERN
GOSHAWKS, a LONG-EARED OWL, and 35 COMMON REDPOLLS.

In the Brunswick Point/Roberts Bank area, 17 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS, 8 SHORT-EARED OWLS, and 8
AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS.

Along the Boundary Bay shoreline, a GYRFALCON, 18 SHORT-
EARED OWLS, 3 SNOWY OWLS, a PINE GROSBEAK, and a
BARN SWALLOW.

In the Beach Grove-Centennial Park area, 2 PINE GROSBEAKS,
a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, a RUDDY TURNSTONE,
2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, and a NORTHERN
GOSHAWK.

At Point Roberts, 4 VIRGINIA RAILS, 6 MARBLED MURRELETS,
2 HUTTON'S VIREOS, 7 WESTERN MEADOWLARKS, and an
EVENING GROSBEAK.

At the Tsawwassen ferry jetty and nearby areas, a WILLET,
3 SNOW BUNTINGS, 5 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, and
6 RED KNOTS.


Sightings for Friday, December 22nd:

In Washington, a BLACK-HEADED GULL has been
present on Bainbridge Island since Tuesday, December 19th.

At Pitt Lake, 3 COMMON REDPOLLS were present at the Grant
Narrows boat launch. Nearby, a NORTHERN SHRIKE and an
AMERICAN KESTREL were seen.

In West Vancouver, a NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL was seen near
the end of the road to Cypress Bowl and 2 MARBLED MURRELETS
were seen from Caulfield Park on Pilot House Road.

In Stanley Park, Vancouver, an AMERICAN DIPPER has been
present for a week on the west side of the moat around the Vancouver
aquarium.


Sightings for Thursday, December 21st:

The immature male KING EIDER at the Semiahmoo Resort marina
near Blaine, WA, which was found on December 8, was still
present today.

At Burnaby Mountain Park in Burnaby, 8 COMMON REDPOLLS were
present in the playground.

In Delta, the 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were still
present in the garden of 3706 88th St. Along 112th St, a 1st
winter GLAUCOUS GULL was sighted. At the foot of 72nd St,
a SNOWY OWL was seen on the Boundary Bay shoreline.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, the immature NORTHERN
GOSHAWK and a NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL were present.

At the base of the Tsawwassen ferry terminal in Delta, the WILLET
was still present.

In White Rock, an EARED GREBE was seen from the White Rock pier.


No reports for Wednesday, December 20th.


No reports for Tuesday, December 19th.


Sightings for Monday, December 18th:

In Delta, the 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES continue at
3706 88th St.

In South Surrey, a drake EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was
seen at Elgin Heritage Park.


Sightings for Sunday, December 17th:

At the base of the Tsawwassen jetty were 3 SNOW BUNTINGS.

In Delta, a SNOWY OWL was present near the foot of 72nd St.
Nearby were 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS.

Along Deltaport Way in Delta, an AMERICAN KESTREL was sighted.

Highlights from the Vancouver Xmas bird count include 70 PINE
GROSBEAKS, a SNOWY OWL, a COMMON REDPOLL, and a
BARN SWALLOW.


Sightings for Saturday, December 16th:

In WA, a THICK-BILLED MURRE was seen at Point No Point
in Kitsap County. However, the LONG-BILLED MURRELET
which has been present since Dec 9th, was not seen today.

In Delta, 2 EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES were seen again
at 3706 88th Street, near the foot of 88th. Nearby, 3 SNOWY
OWLS were present at the foot of 72nd St.

At the Reifel Bird Sanctuary in Delta, an immature NORTHERN
GOSHAWK, an AMERICAN BITTERN, a ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK, 5 BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERONS, and a NORTHERN
SHRIKE were sighted.

At the base of the Tsawwassen jetty in Delta, the WILLET was
again present.
