Santa Clara Co.
---------------
On Jan 1, a white-striped morph WHITE-THROATED SPARROW was seen
in a private residence at the intersection of Sharon Road and
Sharon Court in the Sharon Heights area of Menlo Park. Other birds
in the area include CALIFORNIA THRASHER and HERMIT THRUSH.
(1-2) SHORT-EARED OWL wee seen on the western edge of the dump
at Bxybee Park in Palo Alto. A pair of BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were
at the NW corner of Shoreline Lake in Mountain View.
(David McIntyre)

On Jan 1, the SOLITARY SANDPIPER was re-found at the muddy pond
1/4 mile north of the entrance road to the Coyote Creek Golf Course,
on the west side. (Ed DeBellevue)

Directions from Michael Mammoser:
From the Monterey Hwy, take the road to the Coyote Creek Golf Course,
Where the paved bike path crosses the entrance road, there is a small
utility building on the north side of the road. Next to the building
is the start of a dirt path that leads north along the edge of the
riparian. Follow this path until some small footpaths (or deer tracks)
cut diagonally across a weedy field (towards a construction site).
Follow these footpaths until you get to the end of a fence line at
the southeast corner of a bare dirt field. This field is adjoined on
the east by a little cattail pond area. Work north along the edge of
the dirt field until you see some junk (including an old truck) along
the edge of the field. Here, you will find a small footpath that leads
back down the embankment into the cattail area. About a hundred yards
further north is a small muddy-edged pond that the sandpiper was using.

Contra Costa Co.
----------------
On Jan 1, a male PHAINOPEPLA was seen at the picnic area by the ball
field at Castle Rock Regional Park in Walnut Creek.

On Dec 31, (7) MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were seen Interstate 680.
Take the Marshview exit and drive east to the only farm house out
there. Scan the fields. (Roger Muskat)
