On Jan 6, (3, 2 female and 1 young male) LONG-TAILED DUCKS were in
the Princeton Marina. At Cascade Creek, the female HOODED WARBLER,
female AMERICAN REDSTART, a NASHVILLE WARBLER, SWAMP SPARROW,
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW and SLATE-COLORED JUNCO were seen. Also
a FOX SPARROW shows characteristics of both RED and SOOTY was
observed. (Al Eisner, Garth Harwood and Ron Thorn)

A note on access to the Brussels-sprouts area: Ranger Gary Strachan
spoke with Al this morning and indicated that an understanding has been
reached with the farmer who is leasing the sprout field. Birders are
welcome to AS LONG AS BIRDERS KEEP TO THE EDGE where the discard piles
are. Please DO NOT WANDER THE FIELDS at Cascade Ranch or we may run
into future access problems. (Garth Harwood)

Directions by John Luther:
To find this area go south on Highway 1 about a mile
south of Rossi Rd and look for a single mail box on the right side of
the road. On the left side of the road is the entrance to the K+S Ranch.
About 100 meters south of here (after going over Cascade Creek) on the
left is the entrance to a hidden old road with a gate. One or two cars
could park here. When you get out of your car you will probably
smell the brussel sprouts. Walk past the gate and follow the old road
east through the trees and just past the willows you will see piles of
brussel sprouts on your left. Lots of warblers and sparrows where
feeding on the piles of sprouts. The Hooded Warbler was seen far to the
left by the blackberries and willows at the edge of the open area with
brussel sprouts.
