Tuolumne Co.
------------
On Jan 21, Steven Umland found a male SMEW in Tuolumne County.
To get to the pond take highway 108 a few miles (about 5?) east of
Sonora to Soulsbyville Road where there is a stop light. Turn right on
Soulsbyville Road and then take the first left (right by a store)
which ends in about 100 yards at a pond with the Smew, along with
HOODED MERGANSERS. (John Luther)

Marin Co.
---------
On Jan 21, (2) LONG-TAILED DUCKS were a 50 yards east of the
entrance to the Loch Lomond Marina in San Rafael. (Ed DeBellevue)

On Jan 21, (6) BARROW'S GOLDENEYES were seen at the end of Balero Court
in Novato. Take Atherton Ave exit to Bahia Drive (by way of Bugeia Lane)
to Topaz Drive, left on Balero Court. (Gary Fellers)

Santa Clara Co.
---------------
On Jan 21, (6) BLACK SKIMMERS are at the Palo Alto Baylands, at
the end of San Antonio Road. (Ken Schneider)

San Mateo Co.
-------------
On Jan 21, a PALM WARBLER was seen in the Pedro Point District of
Pacifica. It was at the intersection of Shoreside Drive and Danmann
Avenue. Very cooperative and easy to see. (Joe Morlan)

On Jan 21, a SWAMP SPARROW, white-striped WHITE-THROATED SPARROW,
and AMERICAN REDSTART was at Cascade Creek. (Ed DeBellevue)

Directions by John Luther:
To find this area go south on Highway 1 about a mile
south of Rossi Rd and look for a single mail box on the right side of
the road. On the left side of the road is the entrance to the K+S Ranch.
About 100 meters south of here (after going over Cascade Creek) on the
left is the entrance to a hidden old road with a gate. One or two cars
could park here. When you get out of your car you will probably
smell the brussels sprouts. Walk past the gate and follow the old road
east through the trees and just past the willows you will see piles of
brussel sprouts on your left. Lots of warblers and sparrows where
feeding on the piles of sprouts. The Hooded Warbler was seen far to the left
by the blackberries and willows at the edge of the open area with
brussel sprouts.

Solano Co.
----------
On Jan 21, the SNOWY OWL was seen again today. Dan will be leading
a trip daily until the bird leaves. Call Dan Thiemann's number is
(916) 289-8375 for the lastest updates. (John Comstock)

On Jan 21, the (18) CATTLE EGRETS were near the Budweiser Plant
at I-80 and Hwy 12. (8) MOUNTAIN PLOVER were on the north
side of Robinson Road, west and north of Flanney Road. (David Nelson)
