This is New Hampshire Audubon’s Rare Bird Alert for Friday, September 16th,
2005.
On September 15th, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER and a BAIRDS SANDPIPER were
seen along Route 1A in Rye at the north end of Foss Beach. The birds were
feeding in the wrack line just below the rocks along with a WHITE-RUMPED
SANDPIPER, and several SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS,
SANDERLINGS, and LEAST SANDPIPERS. Also present were a RUDDY TURNSTONE and
a WHIMBREL.
On September 11th, a WESTERN SANDPIPER, and 2 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS were
seen on Seabrook Beach, and a LITTLE GULL was seen offshore. In Meadow
Pond, in Hampton were 3 STILT SANDPIPERS, 100 GREATER YELLOWLEGS and 5
LESSER YELLOWLEGS.
On September 13th, near the Isles of Shoals in Rye, were seen 8 GREATER
SHEARWATERS, 3 MANX SHEARWATERS, 1 SOOTY SHEARWATER, 2 BLACK-LEGGED
KITTIWAKES, a few WILSON'S STORM-PETRELS, and a NORTHERN GANNET. On the
11th, 2 CASPIAN TERNS were seen near Star Island.
On September 13th, in Lee, were seen a CONNECTICUT WARBLER, and 2 LINCOLN’S
SPARROWS.
On September 12th, at Horseshoe Pond in Concord, were seen 2 AMERICAN
GOLDEN PLOVERS, and 1 GRASSHOPPER SPARROW, and on the 10th were seen 70
WOOD DUCKS.
On September 11th, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO and a BLACKPOLL WARBLER were
reported from Epping, and on the 10th, a LINCOLN’S SPARROW was seen in
Durham.
On September 13th, along the Connecticut River in Hinsdale, were seen a
BLACKPOLL WARBLER, a BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, a WILSON'S WARBLER, and 2
LINCOLN’S SPARROWS.
On September 11th, an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was seen on Powdermill Pond in
Hancock.
On September 15th, a PEREGRINE FALCON was seen perched on the water tower
on Route 101 in Hampton.
On September 14th, a GRAY JAY was seen along Route 16 in Errol, and 2
BOREAL CHICKADEES were seen on Mount Osceola.
During the past week, a family of RED-BELLIED WOODPECKERS was reported from
Durham, and single birds were seen in Hinsdale, and Milford.
New Hampshire Audubon and The Vermont Institute of Natural Science are
