This is a summary of reports from the Northern California

23 January 2007 at 06:00 a.m.

Highlights: SMEW, HOODED MERGANSER, PRAIRIE FALCON, FERRUGINOUS HAWK,
BURROWING OWL, LARK BUNTING.

Tuolumne Co.
------------
On Jan 22, the male SMEW continues in Tuolumne County.
To get to the pond take highway 108 a few miles (about 5?) east of
Sonora to Soulsbyville Road where there is a stop light. Turn right
on Soulsbyville Road and then take the first left (right by a store)
which ends in about 100 yards at a pond with the Smew, along with
HOODED MERGANSERS. At 530pm, the SMEW and HOODED MERGANSERS flew off
to the east over the city. A lady said that they usually fly off
at night. (Matt Brady, David Nelson)

Stanislaus Co.
--------------
On Jan 22, a female LARK BUNTING was seen among White-crowned Sparrow,
Lincoln's Sparrows and Towhees along Crabtree Road.

To get to the Lark Bunting, take Highway 132 east from
the town of Waterford. Turn left onto Crabtree Road,
and park in the first pull-out after crossing the
canal, which is 150 meters or so after you turn off of
Highway 132. The Sparrows were very responsive to
spishing. Further down the road, there were (5) BURROWING OWL,
(2) FERRUGINOUS HAWKS and (3) PRAIRIE FALCON.
