____ DUPAGE COUNTY ______________________________________

A flyover MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD was seen on September 2nd, near the
yard in Downer's Grove. A CONNECTICUT WARBLER was also seen in the Yard
in Downer's Grove on Sep. 12.

On Monday at Elsen's Hill, a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen for a brief
period of time near the parking lot. A MERLIN was also seen.

On Wednesday (Sep. 14) at Elsen's Hill, 27 species of warblers were seen
including BLUE-WINGED, GOLDEN-WINGED, N. PARULA, ORANGE-CROWNED, CAPE
MAY, BLACK-THROATED BLUE, PINE, OVENBIRD, N. WATERTHRUSH, CONNECTICUT,
MOURNING, WILSON'S, and CANADA. At least 90-100 AMERICAN REDSTARTS were
present including 20 adult males. Vireos included BLUE-HEADED,
PHILADELPHIA, and YELLOW-THROATED. On Tuesday, 8 PINE WARBLERS were
seen. RED-SHOULDERED HAWK and BROAD-WINGED HAWK also continue to be
seen on occasion. A PEREGRINE FALCON was also seen along the river on
Sep. 9. Thrushes this week have included GRAY-CHEEKED, VEERY, HERMIT,
SWAINSON'S and WOOD THRUSH. A couple YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHERS and an
ALDER FLYCATCHER were also seen this week.

At McDowell Grove on Sep. 14, warblers included MOURNING,
CHESTNUT-SIDED, BAY-BREASTED, BLACK-AND-WHITE, NASHVILLE, BLACK-THROATED
GREEN, TENNESSEE, and AMERICAN REDSTART. A PHILADELPHIA VIREO and a
YELLOW-THROATED VIREO were also seen. On Sep. 5 birds seen include
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, many BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAKS, LINCOLN'S SPARROW, SWAINSON'S THRUSHES, and two BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERONS.

At Waterfall Glen on Sep. 15, highlights included PINE WARBLER and
BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER.

On Sep. 13 at Greene Valley, birds at the 83rd Street Pond include
NORTHERN PINTAIL, STILT SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, and other
shorebirds.

On Sep. 4 at Woodridge FP, birds seen include WILSON'S WARBLER,
GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, and a heard only GREAT
HORNED OWL.

An impresive CHIMNEY SWIFT ROOST was located this week south of the
Jewel Osco in downtown Elmhurst. An estimated 500-1000 swifts have been
seen entering the chimney around 7:30pm for the past eight days or so.

At the Morton Arboretum on Sep. 7, ten species of warblers were seen
including two CANADA WARBLERS by Sterling Pond. RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES
were also seen in a couple locations.

A flyby PEREGRINE FALCON was seen at Danada FP on Sep. 13.

SWAINSON'S THRUSHES have been seen in large numbers this week at many
locations. The first RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS of the fall were also seen
this week at Elsen's Hill and Waterfall Glen.

____ KANE COUNTY _______________________________________

On Wednesday (Sep. 14), a RED-NECKED GREBE was seen on the Fox River
from along the bike trail between John J Duerr (Blackhawk FP) and SEBA
Park. STILT SANDPIPERS and a WILSON'S SNIPE were also seen. The grebe
was not relocated on Thursday, Sep. 15th.

At Tekakwitha Woods FP on Sep. 5, a BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER was seen.

On Sep. 5 at Hampshire FP, a BLACK-THROATED BLUE was seen along with
BLACKBURNIAN, BAY-BREASTED, BLACKPOLL, OVENBIRD, BLACK-THROATED GREEN,
NASHVILLE, MAGNOLIA, CHESTNUT-SIDED, TENNESSEE, and AM. REDSTART. A
BLUE-HEADED VIREO was also seen.

At Nelson Lake (Dick Young FP) on September 5th, birds seen include 10
RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRDS, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS, BLACKPOLL,
TENNESSEE, and PINE WARBLER, SANDHILL CRANES, and other regulars.

____ FERMILAB SIGHTINGS ________________________________

At FermiLab on Thursday (9/15), two SANDERLINGS and five AMERICAN PIPITS
were seen. On Wednesday (9/14), shorebirds included a BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER, a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, and BRAID'S SANDPIPER. An OSPREY was
also seen. A MOURNING WARBLER was seen on Sep. 9th.

The two AMERICAN AVOCETS located on September 1 were not relocated after
that date.

____ UPCOMING FIELD TRIPS ______________________________

Saturday, September 17, 7:30 a.m. Hidden Lake F.P.
We will again be checking for migrating songbirds, shorebirds and
waterfowl. Meet at the south parking lot. If this lot is full, park in
the north lot as no shoulder parking is allowed. The entrance is off
IL-53, just south of Butterfield and north of the Morton Arboretum.

Sunday afternoon, September 18, 3:00 p.m. Lake Calumet Area (Chicago).
The Lake Calumet region is a prime area for shorebirds (if the
conditions are right!) and unusual wading birds, such as Little Blue
Heron, and Snowy Egret. We will check several spots and end up at
Harborside Golf Course, where for those interested, we can eat dinner
and view the shorebirds from the veranda. We will meet at O'Brien Lock
and Dam parking lot. From I-94, exit at 130th St. Go east on 130th a
short distance to the entrance, which will be on your right (the
entrance is just before the steel bridge).

Saturday, September 24, 7:30 a.m. Pratt's Wayne Woods F.P.
Important Bird Area (IBA) Dedication
We will start the morning birding, and then for those interested we will
attend the dedication of the Pratt's Wayne Woods/Tri-County complex as
an Important Bird Area by the Forest Preserve District to be held at
10:00 (at Tri-County Park). For the bird walk, meet at the main parking
lot at the entrance on the west side of Powis Rd., north of Army Trail Rd.

Sunday, September 25, 7:30 a.m. Waterfall Glen F.P.
Our focus will be on migrating warblers and other passerines. Meet at
the Bluff Rd. parking lot. From south Darien, take Cass Ave south of
I-55 until it ends at Bluff Rd. Park in the gravel pulloff area.
