Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was recorded on
Thursday, January 25, at 10:35 a.m. To report a bird sighting, leave a message

SHORT-EARED OWLS are still being seen in good numbers at Langdon Reservoir S/E of
Langdon. A total of 6 birds were seen off Hwy 22X at the south end and west of the
Reservoir on the afternoon of Wednesday, Jan 24. The birds were seen by Dick and
Lenora Flynn. Other good locations for the species in our area recently include
Weed Lake off Hwy 560 at the N/E corner of Langdon. Terry Korolyk observed 7 birds
there at 4:30 PM on Sunday, January 21. He saw 2 more birds on RR 261 just north of
Twp Rd 262 in the Irricana Sloughs on Jan 21, and still on Jan 21, on Twp Rd 231
west of RR 284, S/E of Shepard, Terry observed a SHORT-EARED OWL that has been there
through the Winter season thus far. Dick and Lenora Flynn observed 2 SNOWY OWLS in
the Langdon area on Wednesday, January 24. One bird was on the Boundary Rd north of
Hwy 560, east of Langdon and the other bird was further east off Hwy 560.
The next scheduled update of the Bird Alert is Monday, January 29.
BIRD STUDY GROUP - Meets the 1st Wednesday of the month, September - May at 7:30 pm,
Room 211, BioSciences Bldg, University of Calgary. The next meeting on Wednesday,
February 7, will feature Brooke Clibbon & Eric Tull presenting "Birding in New
Zealand." Doors open at 7:00 PM.

Harvie Bridge.

Sat Feb 3, 7:30am: Several hundred Black-billed Magpies roost in the Weaselhead Area
