EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS -

This is the Voice of Audubon for Friday, September 16.

The CACKLING GOOSE in Concord has been present this week within a large
flock of CANADA GEESE in the cornfield adjacent to the residence at 129 Old
Bedford Road, and seen nearby at the Great Meadows Refuge were 18 GREEN-
WINGED TEAL, a GREAT EGRET, 3 OSPREYS, 4 NORTHERN HARRIERS,
2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 10 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 2 WILSON'S SNIPE, 45 SAVANNAH SPARROWS, 1
LINCOLN'S SPARROW, and 70 BOBOLINKS.

Reports from Plum Island this week included 19 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 3
NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 22 NORTHERN PINTAIL, 135 GREEN-WINGED
TEAL, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE, 7 GREATER SHEARWATERS, 8
NORTHERN HARRIERS, 3 MERLINS, 1 PEREGRINE FALCON, 1
AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, 370 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 165
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 55 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 WHIMBREL,
1 HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 620 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 5
WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 135 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS, 2 BAIRD'S
SANDPIPERS, 5 DUNLIN, 10 STILT SANDPIPERS, 20 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 23 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 600 COMMON TERNS,
2 PHILADELPHIA VIREOS, 17 RED-EYED VIREOS, 1 RUBY-CROWNED
KINGLET, 14 BROWN THRASHERS, 8 AMERICAN PIPITS, 13
species of wood warblers including 1 YELLOW-RUMPED, 22 BLACKPOLLS,
and 2 CONNECTICUT WARBLERS, 1 SCARLET TANAGER, 30
EASTERN TOWHEES, and 1 WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.

Birds seen at the Cambridge Reservoir in Lexington included 5 GREEN
HERONS, 24 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, 36 KILLDEER, 6 GREATER
YELLOWLEGS, 6 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 SEMIPALMATED SAND-
PIPERS, 35 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 1 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, and 8
AMERICAN PIPITS, and a one-day total of migrant raptors counted on
Tuesday at Mt Watatic in Ashburnham included 14 OSPREYS, 1 NORTHERN
HARRIER, 13 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS, 1 RED-SHOULDERED HAWK,
173 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS, 9 AMERICAN KESTRELS, and 2 MERLINS.

In the farm fields off Little's Lane in Newbury were 5 AMERICAN GOLDEN-
PLOVERS, 64 KILLDEER, 3 AMERICAN PIPITS, and a PALM WARBLER,
and miscellaneous reports this week have included a YELLOW-BREASTED
CHAT at the Marblehead Neck Sanctuary, 3 LINCOLN'S SPARROWS
and 3 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS in Gardner, and a CONNECTICUT
WARBLER in Lexington.
