This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for Thursday February 1, 2007.

A EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was along the San Gabriel River on January 27
along with a EURASIAN WIGEON. These birds were joined on January 29 by a
SNOW GOOSE and a PRAIRIE FALCON. The location is downstream from Valley
Blvd. with best viewing from the west side bike path.

Three COMMON GOLDENEYE were at Ballona Creek on January 26. The birds were
upstream from the Pacific Avenue bridge.

Two GOLDEN EAGLES continued at Bonelli Park in San Dimas through January 30.

A CRESTED CARACARA was seen at Hansen Dam near Lake View Terrace from
January 29 through February 1. Take the Osborne exit from the 210 Freeway
and head southwest to the parking area on your left. Walk down to the lake
from here and check the east and southwest shore of the lake for the bird.

The YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues at the Village Green Condominiums.
The bird has been in the vicinity of unit 5554. The condos are at the
corner of Rodeo Road and S. LaBrea in Los Angeles. This is private
property, but birders are welcome. Please be thoughtful of the residents.

The TROPICAL KINGBIRD at Lincoln Park in Lincoln Heights was seen again on
January 30. The bird was near the Pavilion on the north side of the park.

The PAINTED REDSTART in the Solano Canyon area of Elysian Park was seen
through January 30. The bird was by the picnic area at the top of the hill.

A female SUMMER TANAGER was at El Dorado Park in Long Beach on January 27.
The bird was along the 2 Mile Trail between the two pond viewing areas at
the back of the Nature Center part of the park.

A female type BALTIMORE ORIOLE and an adult male HOODED ORIOLE continue at
West LA College. The birds were seen on January 28 by the red curb portion
of Freshman Drive.

On February 1 a SCOTT'S ORIOLE was found at Bonelli Regional Park in San
Dimas. This bird was at the north shore between the small green pier and
the parking lot. Also near the pier were a VESPER SPARROW and a SWAMP
SPARROW.
