the Nob Hill Market, between the houses and the pond. (Roland Franz)

On Feb 1, the RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER continues at Sunol Regional Park.
From the visitor's center, take the foot bridge across the stream,
go right for about 100 yards. The bird was in the large oak tree with
the picnic table. There were many VARIED THRUSHES around.
The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was re-found along Geary Road at 0.4 MP.
It was calling from an oak tree with two large clumps of mistletoe of
it. (John Sterling)
Red-Naped Sapsucker- Directions by Bob Dunn of San Leandro:
"Cross the footbridge (near Visitor Center) and turn right. Shortly
there is a dirt road going up to the left and shortly after a dirt road
going down to the creek on the right. Then there is a huge tree on the
right with a single picnic table under it. The sapsucker was in the top
of the section of tree closest to the trail."
Contra Costa Co.
----------------
On Feb 2, the REDHEAD continues in the large natural pond at the north
end of Heather Farms Park in Walnut Creek. (3) SHORT-EARED OWLS
continue along Bryon Hot Springs Road. (Calvin D Lou)
Short-Eared Owls- Here is Kathy Robertson's directions: "The birds were
all seen in a fenced area which is signed as "Byron Airport Habitat
Protection Area". To get there, turn off the Byron Highway onto Holey
Rd., then turn left on Byron Hot Springs Rd. The SEOWs were in the field
on the right (west) side, from the intersection down to the first
sharp right turn (later, I had one perched along the road just past
the turn)."
Stanislaus Co.
--------------
On Feb 2, the CLAY-COLORED SPARROW continues along Beckwith Road, about
1300 feet from the end of the road. There is a sign with
"Road Ends 1000 Feet". (15) MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were in a young orchard
at the corner of River Road and Grayson Road in the town of Grayson.
(Calvin D Lou)
Clay-Colored Sparrow- Directions by Harold Reeve
Beckwith Rd. goes west from Hwy. 99 in north Modesto, Stanislaus County.
Take the Beckwith Rd. / Standiford Ave. exit and go west for about
eight miles. Alternatively, take Gates Rd. north from Hwy. 132 and
turn left onto Beckwith. This bird is seen most frequently near the
"Road Ends 1000 Feet" sign and hangs out with the large flock of
White-crowned Sparrows there. The sign is just beyond the entrance
to the San Joaquin National Wildlife Refuge viewing platform parking
lot. The bird has been seen along both sides of the road up to
about 500 feet east and west of this sign.
