Welcome to the City of Calgary and CFNS Bird Alert. This Bird Alert was
recorded on Thursday February 8 at 10:10am. To report a bird sighting, call

Sanctuary.

SHORT-EARED OWLS continue to be seen in the Langdon area. On February 1 Fred
Carney found 5 Short-eareds south of Hwy 22X at Langdon Reservoir. A single
bird has spent the winter season southeast of Shepard in an overgrown area
off Twp Rd 231 west of Rge Rd 284. It was most recently seen February 4
independently by Mike Sturk and Terry Korolyk. Weed Lake (off Hwy 560) has
been a good location for the owls.

On the same day MS also noted 3 SNOWY OWLS east of Shepard and another
northeast of Langdon.

TK reported a flock of aprx 140 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS near the corner of
Millrise Blvd - James McKevitt Road in southwest Calgary on February 7.

The Calgary Bird Alert has received details of last summer's ACORN
WOODPECKER sighting. The bird was photographed near Sundre. This will be
Alberta's first record of the species, if it is accepted by the Alberta Bird
Record Committee.

The next scheduled update of the Bird Alert is on Monday February 12.


BIRD STUDY GROUP - Meets the first Wednesday of the month, September - May
at 7:30 pm, Room 211, BioSciences Building, University of Calgary. The next
meeting will be on Wednesday March 7.
