The CRESTED CARACARA found last week at Hansen Dam was only briefly seen on
Saturday February 3. There is a lot of habitat here and the bird may still
be in the area, but there have been no further reports.
The YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues at the Village Green Condominiums and
was last seen on February 6. The bird has been fairly reliable in an orchid
tree in the vicinity of unit 5554. The condos are at the corner of Rodeo
Road and S. LaBrea in Los Angeles. This is private property, but birders
are welcome. Please be thoughtful of the residents.
Another YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was reported through February 6 at Ed
Vincent Park (formerly Centinella Park) in Inglewood. Be aware that this
bird moves around the area quite a bit and that a Red-naped Sapsucker has
also been present in the park.
The TROPICAL KINGBIRD at Lincoln Park in East Los Angeles was seen again on
February 3. The bird has been around the northeast side of the lake. Park
on N. Mission Road north of Main Street for best access.
Two BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were reported. One was at Legg Lake in South
El Monte near the Santa Anita Parking lot on February 3. Another was at Ed
Vincent Park in Inglewood on February 6.
The HARRIS'S SPARROW at El Dorado Park in Long Beach was seen through
February 4. To reach the location, go to the northwest part of Area 3 and
park near the model airplane field. From here, go west along the fence that
borders the south side of the Police Training Academy to a line of trees on
the west side of the park. The bird was near here where there are two short
yellow posts and a larger blue & white sign.
A female BALTIMORE ORIOLE and an adult male HOODED ORIOLE continue at West
LA College. The birds were seen on February 3 by the red curb portion of
Freshman Drive.
This report is sponsored by the Los Angeles Audubon Society.
