At Walker Park in Leet Township on the evening of 9/11, sightings included
YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED
WARBLER, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE
WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER, ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK, EASTERN PHOEBE, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, Empidonax flycatcher sp.,
PILEATED WOODPECKER, many CEDAR WAXWING (MV). On 9/17, CANADA WARBLER,
many MAGNOLIA WARBLER, OVENBIRD, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 2 NASHVILLE WARBLER,
BROWN THRASHER, immature YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, and a parent with 2
fledgling CEDAR WAXWING (BV). On 9/18, sightings included 1 ORANGE-CROWNED
WARBLER, 1 NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, 1 WINTER WREN, 1 WHITE-THROATED SPARROW,
1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, 1 RED-BREASTED
NUTHATCH, 16 species of warblers, 1 RED-EYED VIREO, 2 BLUE-HEADED VIREO,
1 YELLOW-THROATED VIREO (MV with DW, RG, SK).

At the Seville School in North Hills on 9/12, 1 immature MAGNOLIA WARBLER,
1 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER (BV).

In the Bald Knob area on 9/12, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 COMMON/WILSON'S
SNIPE, 1 PIED-BILLED GREBE (all at main pond); 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, 1
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 1 SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, 1 RING-NECKED DUCK, 1 PEREGRINE
FALCON, 2 AMERICAN KESTREL, 2 EASTERN PHOEBE, 5 EASTERN MEADOWLARK (all at
coal pond) (MV).

At Sewickley Park on the morning of 9/13, a nice wave of migrants came
through, including 5-6 BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, 1
GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, 1 PHILADELPHIA VIREO, 5 RED-EYED VIREO, 1 BROWN
THRASHER, 2 TENNESSEE WARBLER, 1 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, 2 NASHVILLE
WARBLER, 7-8 MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 1 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, 1 BAY-
BREASTED WARBLER, 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 1 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, 3
AMERICAN REDSTART, 1 OVENBIRD (actively harrassing an American Redstart),
3 COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 1 HOODED WARBLER, 2 SCARLET TANAGER (GM). On 9/17,
sightings included EASTERN SCREECH OWL (Gray Phase), 3 BLACK-THROATED BLUE
WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, 4 MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 2 AMERICAN REDSTART,
2 OVENBIRD, COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, HOODED WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA, 2
NASHVILLE WARBLER, 5 WOOD THRUSH, 2 SWAINSON'S THRUSH, 1 GRAY-CHEEKED
THRUSH, 2 SCARLET TANAGER (BV).

At Walker and Sewickley Heights Parks on 9/16, sightings included 1 adult
male MOURNING WARBLER, 2 WILSON'S WARBLER, 1 CANADA WARBLER, TENNESSEE
WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, NORTHERN PARULA, CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER,
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, BAY-
BREASTED WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, AMERICAN REDSTART, OVENBIRD,
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, HOODED WARBLER, 1 YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, several
SCARLET TANAGER, 1 BROWN THRASHER, 1 YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, RED-EYED
VIREO, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, WOOD THRUSH, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, EASTERN PHOEBE
(MV with DW & RG).

At Dashield's Lock and Dam on the Ohio River on 9/16, 1 first-winter
LAUGHING GULL (GM with DW), precisely 2 hours after the sighting at
Montgomery Lock & Dam in Beaver County on the same day (see below). The
bird mingled with a flock of ~50 HERRING and RING-BILLED GULLS (GM). The
LAUGHING GULL was still present on 9/17 (GM and WS)--at first light it was
seen at Dashield's Dam, and about twenty minutes later it flew downriver
into Beaver County; around 9:00 or so, the bird was refound from Leetsdale
Boat Launch as it headed back upriver to Dashield's Dam from Beaver
County; WS reports that it was seen at Dashield's again around 10:15 am,
when it was last seen heading back toward Beaver County.

At Frick Park on 9/18, the Three Rivers Birding Club observed
approximately 56 species including 18 species of warblers (including
WILSON'S, a good number of BLACKPOLL, and 1 CAPE MAY), 4 RUBY-THROATED
HUMMINGBIRD, many RED-EYED VIREO, 1 WHITE-EYED VIREO, 1 PHILADELPHIA VIREO
(MF).


Beaver County:

At Little Blue Lake on 9/11, 2 OSPREY, 1 SANDERLING, 1 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 2 SPOTTED SANDPIPER; on the evening of
9/13, 1 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 1 SANDERLING, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 1 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, 3 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 1 SPOTTED SANDPIPER, KILLDEER; on
9/15, 9 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 3 SANDERLING, 4 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 2
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER, 1 BALD EAGLE, 2 AMERICAN KESTREL, 1 BELTED KINGFISHER,
2 GREEN-WINGED TEAL; on 9/17, 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 5 AMERICAN PIPIT, 1
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 6 SANDERLING, 4 SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPER, 3 PECTORAL SANDPIPER, 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER (MV).

At Montgomery L&D (Ohio River) on 9/16, 1 first-winter LAUGHING GULL (MV).
The LAUGHING GULL was still present on 9/17 (GM and WS)--at first light it
was seen at Dashield's Dam (Allegheny Co.), and about twenty minutes later

At Independence Marsh on 9/17, 2 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 3 LEAST SANDPIPER, 3
GREEN-WINGED TEAL (MV).


Crawford County:

At Custards on 9/11, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER (reported to MV by Becky
Smith).

At the state gamleands area near Geneva Marsh on 9/15, highlights included
1 immature CONNECTICUT WARBLER, BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, WILSON'S WARBLER,
MAGNOLIA WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER, BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER,
BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, PALM WARBLER, and PHILADELPHIA VIREO (WS).


Erie County:

>From last week: 9 COMMON MERGANSER (Gull Point) on 9/6; 1 MERLIN (Leo's
Landing 9/8); 1 RED-NECKED PHALAROPE (Wastewater Treatment Plant) 9/1
through 9/6; 1 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER (Sidewalk Trail) 9/8; 3+ WHITE-EYED
VIREO (Pine Tree and Gull Point Trails) 9/7 through 9/10 (JM).

At Presque Isle State Park 9/15-9/16, highlights included 3 RUDDY
TURNSTONE, 3 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, 9 CASPIAN TERN, WHITE-EYED VIREO, 2 RED-
EYED VIREO, numerous WARBLING VIREO, 2 WOOD THRUSH, 10 other thrushes, 1-2
HOUSE WREN, 2 CAROLINA WREN, 1 OVENBIRD, 1 BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER, 1
BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER, 5-6 MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 2 AMERICAN REDSTART,
numerous COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 2 YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, 2 ROSE-BREASTED
GROSBEAK, 1 GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER, Empidonax flycatcher sp., EASTERN
PHOEBE (SK). On 9/17, an adult GLOSSY IBIS and a juvenile LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHER were seen in Thompson Bay in the late morning during the Three
Rivers Bird Club outing held at Presque Isle State Park (DW).


Indiana County:

On 9/13 at Yellow Creek State Park the AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and WESTERN
SANDPIPER were still present, along with 4 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER (MH).


Mercer County:

On 9/17 on a personal migration count throughout the county, sightings
included 1 COMMON LOON, 1 GREAT EGRET (both at Shenango Reservoir), 1
GREEN HERON (#965 Marsh), nine species of raptors including 1 adult
NORTHERN GOSHAWK (Millbrook Road near the pheasant farm), 1 adult MERLIN
(near the above location (and one MERLIN migrating over Grove City College
at 6:03 pm), 1 OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER (Limber Road (same tree for the last
three years), LEAST FLYCATCHER, WILLOW/ALDER-type Empidonax flycatchers,
eleven species of warblers, and six species of vireos (RS).


Washington County:

At Mingo Creek Park on the morning of 9/11, sightings included 3 NASHVILLE
WARBLER, 5 MAGNOLIA WARBLER, 3 BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, 4 BLACK-THROATED
GREEN WARBLER, 2 BAY-BREASTED WARBLER, 1 BLACKPOLL WARBLER, 1 CANADA
WARBLER, 2 AMERICAN REDSTART, 3 OVENBIRD, 2 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, 1
COMMON YELLOWTHROAT, 2 SCARLET TANAGER, 1 YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO, 2 ROSE-
BREASTED GROSBEAK, 3 PHILADELPHIA VIREO (the first bird did a few little
parts of its song), 1 RED-EYED VIREO, possible YELLOW-THROATED VIREO, 1
COOPER'S HAWK, 1 Empidonax flycatcher sp., 2 EASTERN PHOEBE, 4 RED-
BREASTED NUTHATCH (RG).

In rural Coal Center on 9/15, 2 RING-NECKED PHEASANT (VM); on the early
morning of 9/16, the "whit-whits" of a WOOD THRUSH were heard along Pike
Run Creek; the next day an EASTERN PHOEBE was calling (AT).


Westmoreland County:

In Stahlstown on 9/9, 2 COMMON NIGHTHAWK; on 9/14, 4 COMMON NIGHTHAWK (LH).

On Orr Road near West Newton 9/17, BROWN THRASHER (MB).
