This is the Thursday, February 15, 2007 Missouri Rare
Bird Alert, a statewide service of the Audubon Society
of Missouri, serving the birding community of Missouri
since 1901. The bird alert is compiled from reports
submitted by ASM members and other birders throughout
the state.
** NOTE: The report includes birds that are listed as
rare, casual, or accidental on the 2003 Annotated
Checklist of Missouri Birds (with revisions in 2004
and 2005). Species that appear in ALL CAPS in the
“Species Mentioned” section are listed as “casual” or
“accidental” and thus require documentation. (Note
that some birds may be considered rare only during a
particular season or in a particular part of the

SOUTHEAST
On Wednesday, January 17, Bill Reeves and Bob Lewis
found a LARK BUNTING near Dudley (Stoddard Co.). The
bird was last reported seen by Brad Jacobs on
Thursday, February 8. Directions are as follows:
From Hwy 60 take Hwy TT south a ¼ of a mile to the BP
Gas Station. Turn right on the service road (heading
west) for 0.8 miles. At this point there are two
flooded fields on the right side of the road, the bird
was observed just past the second field, on the north
side of the service road. [DeMO p. 67]
At the home of Wes and Claudia Mueller, Cape
Girardeau, an immature RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD continues to
visit their feeders since at least late October 2006.
Wes has been able to keep the feeders thawed at this
point. If interested in obtaining directions to view

ST. LOUIS AREA
Mike Thelan observed 80 GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES and a
single male BREWER’S BLACKBIRD among other blackbird
species at the intersection of Seeburger and Church
Roads (St. Charles Co.) on Saturday, February 10.
At Riverlands MBS (St. Charles Co.) on Saturday,
February 10, and Sunday, February 11, a second winter
THAYER’S GULL, at least one adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED
GULL, and at least one first winter GREAT BLACK-BACKED
GULL were observed by many birders on the ice in Ellis
Bay and at Lincoln Shields. However, for those
willing to cross the border and bird from the IL side,
at least one immature GLAUCOUS GULL and multiples of
the above listed gulls were observed; which could show
up in MO waters at any time. Additionally at
Riverlands, on Sunday, February 11, Mike Thelan
counted 132 swans, of which all appeared to be
TRUMPETER SWANS.
COLUMBIA/CENTRAL
Bill Goodge observed a COMMON REDPOLL visiting his
backyard tray feeder on Friday, February 9. (Boone
Co.)
On Sunday, February 11, Harold and Kathleen Anderson
observed 4 WILSON’S SNIPES in the Sapp Tract at Eagle
Bluffs CA (Boone Co.).
SOUTHWEST
On Sunday, February 11, Greg Swick, Charley Burwick
and Lisa Berger found a single WESTERN GREBE on
Fellow’s Lake (Greene Co.).
NORTHWEST
Frances Cramer reported on Saturday, February 10, that
a RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET has been visiting her Bean Lake
cabin feeders (Platte Co.).
On Monday, February 12, Larry Lade observed both a
MERLIN and a PRAIRIE FALCON near Mud Lake (Buchanan
Co.).
