A SURF SCOTER was on Castaic Lagoon on February 21.
Two SWAINSON'S HAWKS and a number of MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS were at Santa Fe Dam
in Irwindale on February 17.
Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas continues to be good this winter. On
February 18, a BALD EAGLE and the continuing PAINTED REDSTART (near Restroom
#8) were seen. On February 19, a continuing SCOTT'S ORIOLE was on the north
shore just east of the green pier and parking area. A SWAMP SPARROW
continued around the green pier and a GOLDEN EAGLE continues to be reported.
A YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER continues at the Village Green Condominiums. It
was last seen on February 17. The bird has been fairly reliable in an
orchid tree in the vicinity of unit 5554. The condos are at the corner of
Rodeo Road and S. LaBrea in Los Angeles. This is private property, but
birders are welcome.
Another YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER was at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on
February 16. It was seen in trees on the hillside west of the playground
and lake.
The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD at Banning Park in Wilmington was seen through
February 17.
The TROPICAL KINGBIRD at Lincoln Park in East Los Angeles was seen through
February 17. The bird has been seen around the lake. Park on N. Mission
Road north of Main Street for best access.
The VERMILION FLYCATCHER in South El Monte continues. It was last reported
on February 18. The bird is usually between the soccer fields southwest of
the west end of Rush Street, north of the 60 Freeway.
Several VARIED THRUSH continue at Sand Dune Park in Manhattan Beach.
The PAINTED REDSTART at Elysian Park continues in the Solano Canyon area.
The bird has been near the picnic area just before the turnoff to Angel's
Point Drive.
A SUMMER TANAGER was at Ed Vincent Park in Inglewood on February 19.
Two eastern or "RED" FOX SPARROWS were seen this week. One was at Descanso
Gardens through February 18 in the Tudor Herb Garden section of the Rose
Garden near the entrance. The other was at Hahamongna Park in Pasadena
(formerly Oak Grove Park/Devil's Gate Basin) on February 21. Look for this
bird on the east side of the basin on the west side of the settling ponds.
